Popular webcomic "The Oatmeal" no longer asks people to follow them on , , etc. Here's their explanation as to why (contains minor swearing):

@Blort shame that he’s not at least adapted an open social network like fedi as an alternative to email to subscribe and Facebook to contact him. (Yes, the Contact page says that the only way to contact him for non-business inquiries is to post on his Facebook page…

@Blort i'm surprised they didn't make the RSS option more prominent there. (it is there, at the bottom bit that everyone ignores, which i found only using Feedbro's "find feeds in current tab" function)

Targeted advertising is weird. It makes sure that you are shown adverts when they will be less to no incentive to you. For example, I was bombarded with laptop ads after I purchased my laptop. Since I needed only 1 laptop and already bought it, all the ads I was getring were pointless.
