Germany's new government put in on paper: Everyone has a right to encryption! Now the German government has asked the EU Commission difficult questions on the planned EU surveillance law. Will Germany fight for our right to privacy?

Here's a short post mortem for the server outage on Friday and Saturday: A syntax error in a configuration file slipped onto our production web-server. At the same time the server responsible for assembling our website experienced download timeouts when fetching app-listing metadata, which made troubleshooting extra hard. We've added additional tests to catch this type of error before they get a chance to interrupt our services. We're also working on improving web-server architecture.

Something a bit different today...

There's a really nice Fediverse admin on here called @stux who provides lots of free decentralised public services (public instances of Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed, Matrix, Nitter, Invidious, Searx etc).

Stux is spending hundreds of euros a month so that these services remain free and operational.

Apparently Stux has had a tough time finding work recently, but has their own small business which provides web hosting.

If you're looking for a small indie hosting provider, this might be a really good choice as the money raised will help keep the Fedi going too:

(I'm sorry to embarass you Stux, but I think you deserve a shout-out for the good work you do!)

Jede (!) Schule bräuchte neben Hausmeister*in in der heutigen Zeit eigentlich eine*n "IT-Meister*in"...falls 1 mal reicht. Aber ihr versteht was ich mein.

USB-C will be the new standard port for all Europeans.

This means more savings for EU consumers and less waste for the planet:

🔌 mobile phones, tablets, cameras… will all use USB type C

Ok #Fediverse Achtung:

We have a deal on the common charger! 🇪🇺

🇬🇧 Here is a call! Exodus #application is developed by volunteers, but we want to increase the rhythm. So we're searching for a #Kotlin developer for #Android who would like to help us on this. It's paid, obviously. If you're a #freelance and interested, do not hesitate to contact us!

Im in need of some spare cash so im gonna open up 3-5 slots for simple pet portrait for 100€ each. Would anyone be interested? (As in you *are* able to pay for this)

If enough ppl are interested ill make a more detailed post w more info etc. Here are some examples:

I work at a ccTLD (.IS), and lately we are seeing a *lot* of new accounts immediately registering multiple domains that all had been registered in the past. I suspect we're not the only ccTLD that sees this.

We know of at least two instances of this being used to take over social media accounts that had e-mails in expired domains set as backup e-mail addresses.

This seems to be organized and well-resourced.

Please double-check you don't use e-mails in any expired domains anywhere.
