How long have some of you been a part of Mastodon?
What brought you here?
Why do you like it?

@IndignantBastard I feel important when I'm not. :hugging:

Honestly, I like decentralized platforms.

@oyasumi

My problem is that I am probably the least tech-knowledgeable person here, but I am at least trying to make some sense of it. Most of you seem to have a strong background in developing/coding/programming, etc, and I am just not that dude.. lol

@IndignantBastard It's certainly not overly complicated, I think it's just lacking a good introduction of how everything works. I can see where you're coming from and hopefully they work on that.

If you have questions people seem to happily respond when you toot them into the void!

@oyasumi Everyone here has been extraordinarily helpful, which is why I love it.

@oyasumi @IndignantBastard I'm also not a tech person. I'm a writer actually. If it wasn't for my husband I wouldn't have figured it out. 😉

@IndignantBastard Well, most writers think they're bad, so you're probably not as bad as you think. i
It's the ones who are too full of themselves that I tend to ignore.

@IndignantBastard @_knives_out_ I wish I knew how to expand this in Tusky. but I don't. so I'll say I agree.

and also I have enjoyed IB's flow of creative effluvium very much. it's been one of the high points of my timeline thus far.

right up there with pineapple.

@frankiesaxx @_knives_out_

I have no idea what effluvium even means but I enjoy new words very much. Thanks for the compliment, Frankie.

@_knives_out_ @IndignantBastard I think I meant ephemera. not effluvium. as in ephemeral manifestations that exist momentarily in my timeline and then vanish on the relentless social progression.

I am drunk. and typing on my phone.

@IndignantBastard @frankiesaxx if you're drunk and able to do this I am impressed. I once used Indonesia instead of I don't. lol.

@IndignantBastard @frankiesaxx I also feel I'd like to have conversations with you drunk or not. This is amazing diction.

@IndignantBastard Two or three days at most. The engagement is actually kind of addictive, and I'm shocked to see so many people using a federated open source web app.

The whole thing is really smooth. There are some flaws, in the software and maybe the way the creator has interacted with the wider federated community, and the implementation is lacking a few things. The web client is great, though, and the apps work just about as well as mainstream centralized mobile clients.

@IndignantBastard It has a lot of potential, like many of the federated apps that have come before it.

What makes it different is that it is comparably very easy to use when measured against the likes of projects like #Diaspora and #Hubzilla. This isn't to bash on either of those projects - they're great, but they generally lean more towards long-form content, and I'm not sure I've really seen any native mobile apps from either project.

@deadsuperhero

Again, very helpful information, Sean. I don't know what any of that means but I have something to draw from when I research it. I appreciate it, truly.

@IndignantBastard I'm a little stoned, so forgive me if my rambling is incoherent. :joy:

@IndignantBastard 4 months ago it made a few splashes in commie twitter

didn't start using it earnestly until the recent birdsite changes

@IndignantBastard
I've been here five whole days!
A writer I follow on twitter posted about it.
I love watching the creative process and social evolution of a new network. It's fascinating.

@PicklesTFC

I have no idea what I'm doing which is usually the case with pretty much everything.

@IndignantBastard it's been three days for me, and my curiousity brought me here :D i like it because the people are all strangers but friendly to one another.

@y

I like your summary, Yunan:) Pretty cheeky

@IndignantBastard that's interesting since i put my mattress on the floor, you can't be under it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@emery you should, lol. it puts away the anxiety that comes from having a bed that has a space under it.

@IndignantBastard
1. Few hours.
2. A friend of mine told it would be cool to try it out.
3. In deed it is pretty cool. I love these "Local Timeline" thing, I can interact with a lot of people!

@emery

Yes, that is what other sites are missing--at least in my experience. The community feel of it is what I like and the fact that you can create your own instance. You guys know more about it than I ever will but IMO, this makes more sense for being able to connect with people rather than being on massive sites like FaceCROOK, etc.

@IndignantBastard Ya! I feel like I'm out of the Facebook/Twitter friends bubbles

@emery

I honestly never liked either. I like it cozy.

@IndignantBastard I've been here 3 days. I came for the free punch. I stayed for the cookies ... but I'm starting to think there aren't going to be any 😞
