Just paced a local lad we kind of know through friends to a sub 30 minute Parkrun. Waiting on the official time, but watch time was 28:58 for a 5k.
The boy did good πŸ˜€ πŸƒ

...and here's that waterfall you've seen earlier, from a different place in a different light. I like how dynamic this picture is

Run out of mozzarella, so switched to feta and an alternative recipe as I found some of that in the outside fridge.

Best before was sometime in 2016...

Smells and looks fine to me πŸ˜€

Cheese is just milk that had gone off anyway right πŸ˜‹

On another positive note.

It would appear from the slightly cryptic email from the GTCS asking for final payment, I may well be registered for teaching in Scotland.
If not, it would appear imminent.
I reckon I will get a letter next week as previously that has followed the emails.

Progress πŸ˜€

So if the position next week doesn't work out, then Scotland will have opened up a new set of possible options πŸ˜€

Running streak hit 75 days today.

Got an all day interview next week, which could make that day interesting. Going for 100 days, at that I'll be happy for my first streak. Still ticking over at 3 miles a day or more and enjoying itΒ πŸ˜€

Just to make this clear - there is no issue on the .de side, everything is fully operational. The problem was that we store our mediafiles on a storageserver which was unavailable and our server tried and tried to reconnect without success which even froze the affected ssh session when i tried to access such a folder or did a simple df yea...i give my best to find a better solution for that asap. πŸ˜’

Toot content backup (text/tags/urls/mentions) and local database storage in sqlite is what I'm playing with at the moment.

Scratching my own itch, but the backup of media might be useful to those like me that are disorganised, but post pictures they might want to revisit πŸ˜ƒ

Early part of my Mastodon Toot Backup experiment is now out there.

Warning, I am not a programmer by trade, just playing. I am a generalist, not a specialist.

Mastodon Media Grabber

Trawls original posts of your profile and downloads any media you uploaded in your toots. This means only toots you have initiated. Not boosts or indeed at the moment replies...

Offline backup media

OK, poor little server has been a bit stressed.

So although I'll put this out there, on the basis @milan is having issues with media storage setup, I'd say, don't do a fresh run on as all the media requests may well be detrimental to the current situation.

Other instances - use your judgement πŸ˜€

Not used GitHub before, so hopefully it works OK

Back up your media offline in case of instance failure...

There is a possibility of somebody grabbing all of the images/media of a third party, just by using their profile URL.

Now I know, they can browse easily enough the public stuff anyway, but the level of automation makes it feel a little different.

Legitimate concern, or not something to worry about?

Any thoughts or ideas welcome.

OK, so I may have to ask this of a wider audience somewhere.

But, in the meantime.

I have a little script that grabs an offline copy of all the media I have posted.
It occurs to me that it might be useful to others as there is no real user backup in Mastodon as yet.
(I'm working on toot content as well as just media - that's the next itch)

HOWEVER, Mastodon is sort of more private and less searchable.

I am only using my profile URL, but it would work with *anybody's*, so could be misused.

And now it is suitable for a cron job as it can be called with command line arguments...

There is a dilemma though.

And the 🍍 drifted onto my local storage bobbing along the waves of bits, and no other driftwood or flotsam joined it...

I try to post a word of the day with my effort at a suitable illustration.

My profit is the practice of visualizing a new word each day.

The illustrations are licensed CC0 (a public domain declaration) which, like the words should not "belong" to any one person.

You may broaden your English vocabulary or simply have some fun.

I encourage everyone to try making a sentence or poem using the word with the #wotd hashtag...just for the fun of it.

OK, so it didn't run riot πŸ˜ƒ

64MiB & 191 files in folders seems about right.

Need to tidy it up a bit, set it up so it only grabs new files when run multiple times and do some sane grabbing of config variables from argv so it isn't just hard coded to my profile etc...

If I get time tomorrow, I'll use that to build on toot content retrieval (text/mentions/tags) and start stuffing it into a local sqlite database for safe storage and searching*.

*I can never remember what I have posted.

OK, so is running...

So far it seems to be reasonably sensibly grabbing media I have uploaded and filing it n suitable sub-directories πŸ˜ƒ

Time to work out while it runs.

(Of course, if I come back and find that it's still running, I may be inadvertently backing up the entire fediverse on this machine 😜 )
