friday hour :


6 cl bourbon
2 cl sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 cl absinthe
lemon peel to garnish

combine bourbon, vermouth, and Angostura in an ice-filled mixing glass; stir.

rinse a chilled cocktail glass with the absinthe. (you can pour out the extra if you prefer; I don't.)

strain the drink into the cocktail glass.

garnish with lemon peel.

A Waldorf is just a gussied up Manhattan. Manhattans were my grandad's drink.

The men in my family always smelled like whiskey & tobacco & engine oil.

@frankiesaxx I may try making one of those tonight. A Manhattan, but with a hint of absinthe? Sounds great.

@morganth It's pretty nice :) I generally like the classics. G&T, Manhattan, etc.

@frankiesaxx I've been fooling around with old cocktails, thanks to a copy of the Savoy Cocktail Book. Had to buy a few ingredients (including absinthe) that a lot of them depended on.
