i LOVE it when people talk to me about things they’re excited about??? and to see someone light up as they describe something they find fascinating is just so. cute??

tell me about your happy things!! and big exciting things! and gentle little things! anything that makes you feel warm! :_catmelt: ✨

@sewceress Oh, yes! I like that too. Frankly I find people that can not just nerd out about something in this way boring.

I get like this when talking about Linux and programming ^^ It can be annoying xD

@gilgwath I’m not much of a programmer but I want to write a tiny conversion program. I’m a mathematician so I get you about the nerding out thing!! what languages do you write in?

@sewceress I am pretty got with Java. Reasonably competent with C/C++/C# . Somewhat familiar with Python and Matlab and JS. Currently learning Rust :-) Once you got to grips with the basic paradigms of programming, most of it is down to learning the specific syntax of a particular language :-)

@gilgwath oh nice! for some reason, matlab never stuck with me and I found java easiest to work with 😁

@sewceress Matlab is ... a greate tool if you use it daily ... but I have forgotten most of it as well. Hehe great that you learned Java :-)! If you like math you might be interested in the scipy and numpy extensions for Python :-) Great stuff!

@gilgwath lol as a pure mathematician, i didn't really have a use for programing! but I'll keep it in mind for the future!

@sewceress I think every modern human should learn a programming language as part of their education. It helps to develop particular line of thinking and it gives at least a superficial understanding of how machines do their "magic". It's also a skill that can become useful very unexpectedly. Like math πŸ˜… Btw. what's your favourite field of mathematics?

@gilgwath agreed! I've since stepped away but I was working in the field of algebraic topology and dabbled in knot theory as well as galois theory in topology/abstact algebra

Gilgwath @gilgwath

@sewceress :-) topology is fun πŸ˜ƒ Tbh. I have no clue about the actual math, but the topology videos on are always those that really hook me. If actually had some brains ... maybe ^^ I settled for a degree in applied computer science
