so gitea turns out to not care about accessibility at all and is probably going to REMOVE accessibility features. great. so what next? install gitlab of course! but it turns out gitlab is just fucking *broken* accessibility wise by putting HTML in alt text

Here's a screenshot of Firefox's accessibility inspector showing this BASIC MISTAKE

why would they do this? to make some text bold in the tooltip. that's the entire reason. apparently browsers support styling text in tooltips using HTML. god

if you turn off javascript suddenly you can see the issue in the tooltips because it seems the HTML only works with javascript in the tooltips

how do you manage to get dropdowns working- wait what the fuck, those don't work either? what the actual fuck?

the help menu at the top of the page will let you tab to content if you hit down, it doesn't tell you this even did anything. the 'project overview' submenus are only accessible by mouseover, it's not revealed there's any submenus by screen reader. the clone and download menus work, the branch selector says its a link. the branch searcher/selector doesn't work at all unless you use tab which creates a second buggy selection. closing doesn't work

my friend wasted today setting up this piece of shit because it seems more accessible but it turns out to not be and still the ONLY ACCESSIBLE GIT WEB INTERFACE IS GITHUB. let that sink in. of all the FOSS git project management NONE OF THEM EXCEPT GITHUB WORK

@jookia *hops in*

ohhh nice place

definitely an upgrade from the kazuhole

very angry git ecosystem accessibility rant

@jookia Have you looked at lesser known ones?
Like:
rocketgit.com
or
repo.or.cz/

Maybe less frills happens to equate more accessible?

very angry git ecosystem accessibility rant

@murks the low frills ones such as rocketgit and sourcehut are really difficult to use, and repo.orc.cz and gitweb have some inaccessible links and shit

very angry git ecosystem accessibility rant

@jookia Presumably those issues are easier to fix than with large or closed projects like GitLab or GitHub though?

very angry git ecosystem accessibility rant

@murks yep, but you're still left without project management features like bug trackers
