unhinged tusky fascism rant

it absolutely blows my mind that some people think that forking and removing the gab rick roll easter egg block from tusky means the fork is fascist software by fascists for facists. it's such a low bar and i can't believe i've had this discussion more than 0 times

unhinged tusky fascism rant

like first of all, there's a large swath of people that believe software shouldn't have artificial blocks in them for any reason (myself included), including people in the original pull request objecting to the block. we're not NECESSARILY fascists- useful idiots in the war against fascism at the worst i imagine. but intent matters here- the block being removed isn't necessarily to allow people to use fascist instances, but to use ANY instance.

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia Except when it only blocks (the worst of the worst of the) fascist instances removing the block literally only helps fascists

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@elomatreb that's a fair argument and i don't disagree, but intent matters to me as a factor and i can easily see this being a situation of the block being removed as protest against all blocking

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia @elomatreb yeah it's, they didn't go overboard, the picked like the flagship instance of racism and added a meme

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@penny @elomatreb there's plenty of non-fascist reasons to want that block gone

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia @penny Entirely non-snarky: Such as?

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@elomatreb @penny in my case i'd remove it just because it's an artificial block that makes the software do less, like DRM. there's also the trouble around it that i perceive such as lack of discussion or consensus with the block or patch to implement it. none of these are fascist reasons

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia @penny I'd classify "annoys fascists" as a major feature

Consensus might be a problem if the blocklist were larger than it is, but in todays climate I don't see a way for productive discussion about fascists happening. As soon as you'd mention it on an issue tracker it'd be swamped with dogpiling fascists

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@elomatreb @penny Did that answer your question though?

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia Yes and no, I probably wouldn't call all users immediately fascists but it's certainly an indicator that merits a closer look (similar to e.g. being really into Nordic imagery)

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@elomatreb I'm mainly talking about FreeTusky itself, not its users- there's not much data on its users I can find.

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia Isn't the app people talked about recently called Husky rather than FreeTusky? From what I can see FreeTusky reverted the blocklist coommit and hasn't been updated since

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@elomatreb Yes, that's the FreeTusky I'm talking about. Not Husky.

re: unhinged tusky fascism rant

@jookia @elomatreb okay freetusky just sucks because it doesn't add any value
