as a white dude i don't experience much trash in life but i'm proud to not be a conscious and hateful person towards people due to their ethnicity, gender, sexuality, whatever. like i have biases, sure. i try to actively work against them.
but i don't go on facebook and make slurs about chinese people
or just in general hate chinese people?
sinophobia is bizarre to me, and it's everywhere and accepted especially among like electronics people??
@jookia You see this come up in ham radio groups in the US. Someone will talk about inexpensive Chinese equipment as "Chi-comms" (a callback to Rush Limbaugh) or use "Chinese" and "cheap" as interchangeable. It's not only racist as shit, but their claims that it's ubiquitous is because consumers are too cheap to buy "better"...which is kinda also elitist. And ignores there are good uses for inexpensive products, too.
@roadriverrail well, ham radio is mostly just middle-aged dudes who can afford an expensive hobby isn't it?
@jookia I notice the "DE" and can't speak to Germany. Here in the US, you do have to pass a test, but the answers to the test are a public document (by law), and there are examiner groups that will administer the test for free, so the only cost is a one time fee to the government to process your exam results.
@roadriverrail i'm in australia so the process is just ... confusing at best. i have to do paid exams, then apply for a license which can be paid too, and i think those might be in person? i don't know. there's no clear process
