unhinged tusky fascism rant

i don't know what the deal is here and it worries me what block will come next. if we can't even handle blocking fascism as a community in a responsible way, anything more complicated is just going to be a headache and shitfest

and this kind of mirrors the discussions i've seen around it. people will argue about how we need to block fascists from using our software, sure- but they won't discuss whether rick rolling people is the right way to do this, they will defend it as if this is the solution and it can't be improved on or removed. which doesn't make any internal sense if it's about blocking fascism

i really find it hard to go from this little information to deciding that software, its author or its use is specifically to further the goals of fascists.

but on the other hand, tusky isn't exactly a democracy itself. the author added the easter egg and ignored all the community's objections on political and technical levels.

it's not possible to conclude much about fascist intent from removing a block since there's a lot of different reasons you'd do it for. so in freetusky's case, was it done to specifically allow people to access gab and do fascism?

it's hard to tell because the author seems fairly private and freetusky as a project or in its code or its 13 commits hasn't clarified this. it could go either way.

like first of all, there's a large swath of people that believe software shouldn't have artificial blocks in them for any reason (myself included), including people in the original pull request objecting to the block. we're not NECESSARILY fascists- useful idiots in the war against fascism at the worst i imagine. but intent matters here- the block being removed isn't necessarily to allow people to use fascist instances, but to use ANY instance.

it absolutely blows my mind that some people think that forking and removing the gab rick roll easter egg block from tusky means the fork is fascist software by fascists for facists. it's such a low bar and i can't believe i've had this discussion more than 0 times

the worst part of tusky is how you need to install freetusky instead

george floyd

i say probably because since i'm a person that isn't a racist i can't actually even comprehend whatever court argument he's going to use to get out of this one and retire happily to sell paintings of murdering brown people

you see your honor, i'm a racist and have huge urges to murder every non-white i see. it's a disability and burden i cope with every day, but it overcame me this time. if you're saying i can't be a police office BECAUSE i'm a racist, that's discrimination

like i imagine when you go to the cop class the first thing they teach you is that when you kill unarmed black people you have to do it before the situation is quote 'under control', so our hero derek chauvin manages to get geroge floyd to the squad car then realizes- whoa i forgot to do the murder part. and all these people are watching. so he has to use the ol' eric garner trick but fucked that up by taking 7 minutes to do it and now he's probably going to prison

george floyd

i'm struggling to think of ANYTHING that would exonerate the cop here, even hypothetically- that doesn't include being racist. like even if george floyd's neck magically welded itself to the ground and the knee making the situation IMPOSSIBLE to end, you'd think the cop would go 'holy shit i can't move my knee, someone help me get my knee off his man who is dying, let's at least try to stop this situation'

jookia talks about electoral college

did you know that at US election time the votes are counted and some dudes (probably the illuminati but unconfirmed) go to a place and declare the votes on behalf of voters

except for some reason instead of just pooling votes together and declaring a winner they have a mini vote? and they can just vote whatever?

legend has it this is because ... it took a long time to travel? so votes don't matter then?

git uuids

so i guess the solution im proposing here is this:

- have a global mailmap
- manage it according to a Author-UUID and Committer-UUID field present on commits

git uuids

but maybe trailers would work instead

git uuids

oh it looks like i'd have to modify git's code. makes sense in a way

Show thread

git uuids

apparently git includes global hooks? maybe i could just maek this a hook thing?

Show thread

git uuids

all this could be done with some git configs/git hooks magicery as a prototype so maybe i should legit try that

Show thread

git uuids

so theoretically you could get auto-updating names in git easily with a way to change name source if needed but at the expense of breaking compatibiltiy

Show thread

git uuids

now if someone doesn't want their name to be in git history AT ALL, you'd have an out of band method of grabbing a mapping, such as a mutable ref from the origin like i did or a name lookup service

Show thread

git uuids

ugh the more i think about it the more the git uuids issue becomes solvable:

- add an optional header in git commits, Author-UUID and Comitter-UUID
- keep internal mapping of author names in git commits to UUUIDs based on last seen commit author

this would automatically solve the issue of interfacing with non-UUID aware gits as the author would still be there if the user's ok with that, and UUID-aware gits would automatically retroactively see old commits with new names
