On the weekend from 18th to 19th September 2021 I'll remove old accounts on the linuxcult.net XMPP server. I'll delete ALL accounts, that didn't log in for a year and ALL accounts that never logged in.

So you should log into your account before that date to make sure it doesn't get deleted in case you still want to use it.

The upgrade to Debian 11 Bullseye is done. There were some minor problems and some tweaking was needed due to the upgrade to PHP7.4. But after all, all systems seem to operate properly again.

PLEASE: If you experience any problems or difficulties with the website or the XMPP server, send email to dan@linuxcult.net and describe your problem.

Between Saturday, the 11th September 2021, and Sunday, 12th September 2021, I'll upgrade the Web/XMPP server from Debian Buster (10) to Debian Bullseye (11) as stated in the blog post below. Because this is a major upgrade, there will maybe be some unforeseen problems. So expect some longer downtimes on this weekend.

I can't say how long the downtimes will last but expect more than one.

Blog Post: linuxcult.net/blog:ein_groesse

The upgrade and maintenance on Monday, 09. August 2021 went without problems. All services are up and running again.

In case you have any problems, write an email and describe what's wrong.

On Sunday, 08. August 2021 or Monday, 09. August 2021 (CEST) there will be a bigger update and maintenance on the server at linuxcult.net. I'm not sure how long the downtime will take, but it won't exceed 3 hours, if everything goes well.

The upgrade to debian 10.10 from 4th July 2021 went fine. All systems are operational again.

If you experience any problems, send me an email.

And again I mixed up the dates:

The next update will be of course on 4th JULY 2021.

On Sunday, 04. June 2021 (CEST) there will be a bigger update on the XMPP server. The server will be taken down for a short time to accomplish the full update, but I don't expect the downtime to be longer than 3 hours if no problems arise.

The upgrade to debian 10.9 and prosody 0.11.9 went without any problems.

If you experience any problems, please report via email.

On sunday, may 16 2021 (CEST) there will be a bigger upgrade of the server, so there will be a downtime of up to 3 hours if all goes well.

The server update is done. No problems. All systems are up and running again.

Of course the server maintenance is on 7th MARCH 2021 not 7th feb as stated in the last post!

Thanks to @u_urban for making me aware of this!

XMPP server maintenance on sun, 7th feb 2021 CET

Because there is a rather big update to Debian 10 (Buster) and also for the prosody XMPP server, I need to take the server down for a longer period to do a full backup in order to be able to roll the system back to a running state in case of failure.

This will be done some time on sunday, 7th of february 2021 (CET). So expect XMPP to not being available.

I don't expect the outage to be longer than 3 hours if no problems arise.

The kernel upgrade is done and the system has rebooted.

All services are up and running again.

Happy chatting!

On sunday, 7. Feb 2021, there will be a reboot of the XMPP server due to a kernel update. All connections will be interrupted and have to be reestablished after reboot.

The update to debian 10.7 went fine and all services are up and running again.

Happy chatting!

Some time during the next weekend (19. - 20. Dec 2020) I'll update the server to Debian 10.7 (buster). The server has to be stopped and restarted in order to do so.

Because I do a full system backup before the update to eventually roll it back fast in case of problems, the downtime may be a little longer. Please expect a downtime from 2 to 3 hours.

But as always I'll try to keep the downtime as short as possible.

The kernel update is through. All services are up again.

Happy Chatting!

Due to a kernel update there will be a downtime of the XMPP server some time during
the coming weekend.

I'll try to keep the downtime as short as possible.

The upgrade to debian 10.6 is done.

There was an update to prosody 0.11.7 too which went fine. I also updated all used prosody modules.

Everything should work as expected now.
