The Ubakus U-Wert rechner is a tool that helps calculate and visualize the properties of building insulation.
While it's not free software, most of its functionality is available free of charge, and it's a great way to educate yourself about something we unnecessarily waste enormous amounts of fossil fuels for: heating buildings.
Note that it uses metric values (and metric R-values, which are lower) by default. And that it has a bias towards cold climates, assuming that moisture problems arise when humid air travels from the inside to the outside in winter.
In warm/humid climates, the opposite is true. I think it's possible to adjust for this in the tool.
