ChatSecure is a free and open source messaging app that features OTR encryption over XMPP. You can connect to your existing Google accounts or create new accounts on public XMPP servers (including via Tor), or even connect to your own server for extra security.
@PastaGringo i prefer omemo/megaolm for e2ee. Matrix supports megaolm.
And i don't see google as an argument.
@milan me neither indeed. But XMPP self-hosted seems to be a safe way to communicate with a small community. I'll look Matrix, there is an iOS app?

I'd have to check more deeply to see if Chatsecure / Signal have any support for Matrix itself, though neither are mentioned in the FAQ, which suggests not.
