I’m watching Westworld, the movie, tonight. Here’s my impression of a dialogue between two studio execs that led to this movie being made:

“Hey, it’s the 70s, and everyone wants to watch sci-fi movies.”

“Yeah, but we have all these oldtimey sets. What should we do?”

Also, Michael Crichton really had a thing about “what if amusement park but it goes horribly wrong?”, didn’t he? Did he have a bad childhood experience at Disney or something?

Also, I understand now how you could see that movie and think, “that would make an excellent TV series”. There are lots of questions that the movie invites you to ask and then doesn’t even try to answer. The TV show is trying to answer them.
