Firefox becomes unresponsive for several seconds, burning CPU. Yesterday I decided to watch FF in gdb and saw that it's accessing thousands of font files , each causing a "SIGSYS, Bad system call".
Can anyone guess why FF gets SIGSYS, failing to access a world-readable file? Bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1566053
Beast version 0.14.0 is released.
The full release announcement is out now:
Except for two things that aren't obvious:
a) You need to figure to create the default ticket structures, as described here (github closed issue search is your friend): https://github.com/docker-library/redmine/issues/111#issuecomment-379728491
b) To reduce fragmentation, btrfs users might want to re-create /usr/src/redmine/sqlite/redmine.db to add chattr +C
Tentative NEWS for the upcoming Beast release:
Summer definitely has arrived in Hamburg, has been a hot day here.
I inflated the wading pool for the kids, which was well received. After all we had 30°C, sweating hot!
Then I read "India heatwave temperatures pass 50 Celsius", that really puts things in perspective...

Just came back from #HM19 (industrial production fair in Hannover).
It's incredible how many products have to carry "#blockchain" in the title or description these days, it's infected almost everything that deals with sensor or log data.
One presenter literally said "we also put 'blockchain' into the sensors software because the client WANTED it."
OTOH, it's nice to see that fabrication companies increasingly base their software stacks on #OpenSource and have learned to contribute back.
The #Beast source code is currently being rewritten in various places (CI, IPC, Build system, etc)
During the process, the various pieces of Beast documentation were converted to Markdown, structured and merged into a single cohesive document. Formulas can now facilitate #Latex (and #Mathjax) and syntax highlighting was introduced. It is rendered to #HTML and #PDF and the #CSS was adjusted to closely match the Latex based PDF looks.
"Walking in my (Electron) shoes"
Gergely Nagy writes about having to deal with hate (!!) received from people for developing on #Electron.
Since I started moving #Beast to Electron, I've also had several interesting discussions (but not
"hateful" encounters) with people claiming that it must be slow or resource wasteful compared to native toolkits, both of which aren't really true in Beast's development context. Development itself is vastly superior though.
