Stuff about having phone numbers and email addresses attached to social media accounts

If you're ever worried about people (or organisations) finding social media accounts through your mobile number, (in the UK at least) Vodafone do free sims. You can get a number to secure your accounts without having any known information linked to you or having to be using an online service.
Just explained this to someone who had their accs brought up over something by people they didn't know could find it.

If you're stuck with phone only system for 2fa and have a spare handset it's good to use a number not known by people for it, too.
If you're similarly worried about email (since so many forms and things demand it now). you can set up Gmail /proton mail or something and have all emails forwarded to your usual account in settings. Carry on as normal just fill out social media profiles with the dummy account.

With the data being held by companies in ways we don't necessarily know and consistent fuck ups with data leaks, along with heading down a pretty terrifying road politically, it's beginning to look a lot less extreme as a measure than it was.
The DWP already search for profiles using this information so I've no doubt other gov departments do too, and will more commonly as time goes on.

@sophia giffgaff will also sends out multiple free SIMS but I think they do link them to an address (and block a lot of things without age ID, although this is easy to get round by tethering the phone to another computer and you at least get a different phone number).

Beware that Voda doesn't work well in some areas like East Anglia (not enough masts) - EE has best coverage but its also what govt/feds use >>

@sophia

Coverage/reliability may be important if you live outside a town and depend on the mobile for any health-related stuff/keeping in touch with close friends/partners/carers

This might also be useful to UK folk as it shows which PAYG SIMS use which real networks..

@sophia my current day job involves monitoring quality of UK mobile networks for use in healthcare (where privacy and reliability are both important), I carry multiple devices to log data for this and am always willing to share my findings, although I'm normally only doing this around Suffolk and North Essex (in a mixture of urban and rural areas)
