Dear mentoring people from #practicecoding, we're currently considering Git* but are not sure which one to use. Also we're thinking about a chatbot as a project. Opinions? Ideas? @luke_nukem @wim_v12e @rixx @ekaitz_zarraga @saper @eal @vfrmedia
@Nafrondel @TQ I've just signed up to GitHub for the first time in my life and it said that only private repos were chargeable (i.e as long as you shared code use was free.
A box also came up about "setting up an organisation" which could be useful.
I agree its a steep learning curve (and this after 30+ years of tech experience!) but there does seem to be rational sense behind the complexity..
@vfrmedia @TQ Not sure about the rationality... ;) But for serious - as long as you're not scared of Vim and Bash, all should be good. There are some good step by step guides out there too which give the major commands you're likely to want.
For beginners, Github does most of the hard work, such as setting up new branches and giving you the commands you need to get started.
