@colon_three I'm a cishet male and yet still find this as bad as if not worse than actual prejudice.
Its a dangerous path - consider RU where just a few years ago they scandalised Eurovision with the (fake) lesbian imagery of t.a.t.u and far from improving LGBT rights/safety its now one of the worst countries in Europe in that respect..
@vfrmedia @colon_three Commercialization is not, in fact, as bad as or worse than actual prejudice, and to various degrees we've been able to use corporate support/sponsorship/etc. to further the movement and economically pressure for rights. Please don't say things like this. And Russia's anti-gay path is more about the government's relationship to/use of the Orthodox Church for political gain than a Eurovision performance.
@skysailor @colon_three Sponsorship of marginalised groups does have benefits but also risks furthering stereotyping.
re RU and state/religion, this dominance was already happening in 00s around time of Eurovision performance - my comment was more in surprise that RU state TV *would* do such a thing!
To those outside direct LGBT community this (and other events there) did look like views were changing, alas does not appear to be the case longterm.
