Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK @vfrmedia

is dangerously short of nearly 100 000 staff (including 35 000 nurses and 10 000 doctors).

These are vacancies that have funding for the salaries available, but a lack of applicants (ofc Brexit doesn't help, nor do current immigration quotas which expect higher salary levels).

The NHS jobs website is also not easy to use for would be applicants within England (I checked it myself out of curiosity..)

@vfrmedia let me guess, it also disproportionately hits places nobody really wants to live anyway.

@pony thats often true for the young workers although its also where the patients are (because they are old).

It affects the care homes too which are part funded by NHS but also by the local Council and a contribution from the patients family, they struggle to get staff too (we currently have active vacancies for senior carers and nurses).

Careers in healthcare are less appealing than they once were (younger folk want to work in startup companies etc and there aren't even that many here)

@vfrmedia Wow. Just over 8%. I read this would happen when the brexit vote was approved. Lots of ppl going 'home'.

@gemlog the worst part of this is NHS nurse training appears to be quite good quality, there are 104 job vacancies (including admin and support staff, 81 permanent in my region alone, but because they aren't filled quickly existing staff burn out and they end up in a vicious circle; also they seem to want already trained/qualified nurses (not even recent graduates) which don't magically appear from nowhere and Border Agency raised the salary requirement making it hard to recruit outside EU.

@vfrmedia Truly, it often seems like the lunatics are running the asylum. Here too.

@gemlog the Finance department for the local hospital actually used to be in the buildings of the former Ipswich Lunatic Asylum!

These got knocked down and the service outsourced to Leeds(!) for a bit but the work has since come back to Suffolk (sharing a building with the local Council)

@vfrmedia We've a chronic shortage of doctors here in the north, coz... north. They don't want to live here. We bribe them with 100k+ bonuses to live here for a 3 yr term, which they take and then leave right after. Obviously (since I choose to live here), I don't understand why ppl want to live in the city.
We have public health care, but our docs all operate as small businesses. Canucks compare themselves to the usa and think we're all that, but we aren't even in the top 30 ww
