Remembering Graphing Calculator [1] in today's macOS… I always loved how quickly it plotted inequalities…

Reminder of the Graphic Calculator story [2] (which shipped with all initial PowerPC computers, and then some) courtesy of @timbray. Not sure if @RonAvitzur is still active on the fediverse…

Been waiting for this day! The release of #MorphOS 3.19

Never really used MorphOS before. And I was never an #Amiga user either either (I left the #C64 for a 386).

Last year I've started exploring the "alternative universe" of #Commodore with the #Mega65. Now I will explore the #PowerPC Amiga Software on the #MacMiniG4.

Burned a CD and installed it. Quick and easy. Replaced my old "hacked" version of #MacOS9 that was installed on the unsupported #PPC #MacMini.

I fixed an issue in pixman's Altivec code the other day -- cgit.freedesktop.org/pixman/co

And in the process, I read through the Altivec docs and discovered that there are vector instructions that pack and unpack between a8r8g8b8 and a1r5g5b5 formats (but nothing fo r5g6b5).

Any clues why? Was a1r5g5b5 really common on Mac OS or something? I don't think I've seen a1r5g5b5 used anywhere.

cgit.freedesktop.orgvmx: Fix is_opaque, is_zero, is_transparent functions - pixman - Pixman: The pixel-manipulation library for X and cairo. (mirrored from https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pixman/pixman)

A nice evening with some #Crémant de Bourgogne and #Warcraft on my "new" #ibook G3

I have such memories of this game playing on my old #386. But I also remember the game taking just a few 1.4MB of ARJ compressed floppies and not 80Mb+ as the Mac version seems to be.

But I should have read mission objectives. Because I have explored the map and killed all the enemies and then later found out that was not the mission.

HTTPS including TLS 1.3 and SSH2. Configuring #Classilla with Crypto Ancienne (floodgap.com/software/classill) to work as HTTPS proxy.

And doing so with the use of #ssheven (github.com/cy384/ssheven) to ssh into a local server.

Now I have a #MacOS9 laptop to replace my #MacMIniG4 as my "Classic Mac" so the mini can do new adventures with #MorphOS. But first I will spend some time setting up MachTen.

Now after installing #MacOS9 on an #Apple #iBook G3 600MHz I did some benchmark against my #MacMiniG4 also running MacOS9 (via the ROM hacked image).

The #PowerPC G3 in this iBook surprisingly slow. I expected half of CPU performance, of the G4 not less than a third compared to the 1.2GHz #PPC G4 in the Mini. And it's rather close with the built in reference result of a #Powermac G3 300MHz.

The FPU benchmark looks better though...

Fantastic! #TotallyNormalComputing

Booting #MacOS9 Installer from USB, and without even touching #OpenFirmware. I really like the community for this kind of service!

'Mac OS 9.2.2 "boot kit" for booting your G3/G4 from an USB stick' by that-ben on Macintosh Repository just works out of the box! On a #powerpc #G3 #ibook with USB1.

And it was kinda fast to boot and install too. My #Powerbook got some company now!.
