A random advertisement for good #software. Just because it makes me happy:

I've been using #mediamonkey since almost 20 years. It is so inviting to curate and maintain, and play from my local #music library!

One essential strength of MM is that it does not hide the complexity of a media #library . Instead, it makes the complexity accessible and manageable.

It is not for everyone, but if you really like having locally stored music and you can enjoy quality software, check it out.

The story about Ibtihal Abu Alsaad, the Microsoft engineer who was fired for telling Microsoft not to use their software to aid #Israel in the Palestinian #genocide, is something I’ve feared all my career. Abu Alsaad said: “My biggest fear is waking up for my 9 to 5 and realising that my code has killed children today.”

I wrote this in 2018: “Software used to guide a missile has consequences. So does software used to profile applicants for potential jobs, or help people live a healthier life. Will you accept the moral consequences of your code? Will you accept both praise and blame for how your software is used?”

I’m always painfully aware of what the code I write can potentially do. There are bright red lines I will not cross, no matter the reward.

Hi guys, I have tried the #CC1101 from #Lilygo. It is important that you pay attention to the identification CC1101 if you want to reproduce this yourself, because the device is also sold under other identifiers with a different range of functions and looks exactly the same.

It is a
#hacker #tool with which you can record and analyze #Wifi, #Bluetooth, #NFC and #Lora signals. You can also use it as a #BadUSB #development tool. It is much cheaper than a #FlipperZero, but also has a smaller range of functions.

It is somewhat disappointing that the default firmware supplied is only suitable for testing the screen, LEDs and controls. It is otherwise useless and should therefore be replaced immediately.

For my first test I choose the
#firmware from #CapibaraZero: https://capibarazero.com

It is very easy to
#install via the #browser. However, my Firefox refused to do this, which is why I used Thorium (a free Chrome variant): https://flash.capibarazero.com

Stay tuned and follow me if you don't want to miss it and I'll tell you what you can do with the device.

"the RISC-V port of #GCC was introduced only in GCC 7.5.0—a version that requires C++ and cannot be bootstrapped! To this end, we have been improving MesCC, the C compiler that comes with Mes, so it is able to build GCC 4.6.5; meanwhile, Ekaitz Zarraga backported RISC-V support to GCC 4.6.5, and backported RISC-V support from the latest tcc to our bootstrappable-tcc."

That’s the kind of heroism in #software development that you rarely hear about:

My problem with #gaming is that I don't like to isolate myself when others are in the house. I want to play on a TV in a living room, not my computer.

My #gamedev (major) child finally convinced me to connect a laptop to it. (I'm a #software #engineer and I *already* have a PC/TV setup so I don't know what my blockage was. #adhd

HOWEVER

I've got #linux on the laptop. I bought a generic #xbox controller (3BitDo and it seems pretty nice so far).

Linux sees the controller and works fine.

#Steam sees the controller and works fine.

Of the games that support generic xbox controllers, about half of them work fine. The other half refuse to acknowledge it.

???

I can't even tell at what stage the failure occurs. Is the OS failing to report some controller bit to steam? Is the game determining "generic xbox" status poorly?

"Steam Input" should be the solution but in 2 days of screwing around has only ever made things worse.
