Rachel<p><span>So looking at my home networking, I've got three main options<br><br>1. Keep opnsense as the router, possibly even keep the switch but add a 2.5gb switch <br>2. Go crawling back to unifi (less likely, $$$)<br>3. Swap the core out with Microtik, including router and core switches <br><br>The third option is really interesting to me, but I've heard people talk about limitations that they've encountered with Microtik so I'm really curious how people feel about them and what those limitations were<br><br></span><a href="https://transitory.social/tags/Networking" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Networking</a> <a href="https://transitory.social/tags/Homelab" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Homelab</a> <a href="https://transitory.social/tags/MicroTik" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MicroTik</a> <a href="https://transitory.social/tags/Unifi" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Unifi</a> <a href="https://transitory.social/tags/Opnsense" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Opnsense</a></p>

JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>I got my remote security rig assembled and configured. Kill-a-watt confirms 25-30 watts. I ran it for a day to check kWh measurement against real time and it checked out. </p><p>So yesterday I fully charged the EcoFlow, plugged the "rig" into that, and pulled the AC plug. The readout suggested a 22 hour runtime. That's less than the 33 I calculated, but there's overhead and waste associated with DC to AC to DC, plus heat and cooling fans.</p><p>Anyway it ran for 20.5 hours before I plugged it back in. Still had 13% battery and ~3 hours runtime. Very positive test, I'm pleased w/ the results. </p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ecoflow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ecoflow</span></a></p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>I’m not sure if anyone cares, but my remote “security rig” is very cool. It consists of a CloudKey+ w/ SSD, a Flex Switch + utility powerbox, Verizon home 5G router, and two G5 turret ultras. All in draw is 25-30 watts. If powered by my 1kW EcoFlow Delta, that’s 33 hours, with zero solar input. I’m happy with how it turned out. <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a></p>
Geeky Malcölm 🇨🇦🍀🇺🇦<p>So I had been running my <a href="https://ioc.exchange/tags/OBFS4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OBFS4</span></a> Relay behind my Bell Fiber modem w/o issue &amp; decided to move it behind my <a href="https://ioc.exchange/tags/UniFi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UniFi</span></a> UXG Lite gateway.</p><p>I set the server (running Debian) to DHCP &amp; created the port forwarding rules on the UXG. It looked OK but I started to get the "Your server has not managed to confirm reachability for its ORPort(s) at xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:ZZZZ.</p><p>I troubleshot the issue with my buddy Julien &amp; we found the issue was with Home Hub 4000 (HH4K) and the Advanced DMZ. Even though the UXG was showing a public IP on the WAN Port and the HH4K was showing that the port the UXG is plugged into is configured for Advanced DMZ, traffic was not being passed back &amp; forth.</p><p>I disabled the HH4K DMZ &amp; reserved a DHCP IP for the UXG &amp; created a port forwarding rule for the TOR ports on the HH4K to the UXG. Then on the UXG, I created port forwarding rules from the WAN IP, which is now an internal IP, to the Relay server.</p><p>After a reboot, things came back online.</p>

JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>We’re going to be unexpectedly moving across town soonish. (Not bad, not good. But an upgrade) So I bought a bunch of stuff I had planned to buy anyway to secure whatever temporary structure we eventually put on our land. But instead it’s going to the other place to monitor during renovations. Ubiquiti and a $30/month Verizon 5G gateway, FTW. <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/UI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UI</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a></p>

Ein bisschen wie <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a> also.</p>
