German aerospace startup scraps orbital rocket launch on first test flight.

German startup Isar Aerospace on Monday scrapped a planned test flight for its Spectrum orbital launch vehicle from Norway, citing unfavourable winds.

The two-stage launch vehicle is intended to be the first orbital launch flight to lift off from Europe.

Wo kommt der Demut des #Handelsblatt schon wieder her? Sie schreiben im Artikel über #Isar #Aerospace „Den Start der „Spectrum“ bewerten Experten und Investoren auch als deutliches Signal an Gründer in Deutschland und seinen Nachbarstaaten, wonach es in Europa ausreichend Wissen und Talent gebe, um Innovationen in diesem bislang von anderen Ländern dominierten Bereich voranzubringen.“ Zweifellt jemand daran, dass wir in #Europa 1. mehr und 2. die innovativeren Menschen sind? Ich nicht! Viele USA-Unternehmen enthalten Europa und man schätzt unser Wissen. Das mag der orange Mann nicht so sehen, aber er kann den kleinen Nazi neben sich mal fragen, wer seine Raketen und Autos baut… da steckt mehr non-USA drin als er vielleicht denkt!

The present work is an amendment to Glauert's optimum rotor disk solution for the maximum power coefficient, CPmax, as a function of tip speed ratio, λ. First, an alternate mathematical approach is pursued towards the optimization problem by means of calculus of variations. Secondly, analytical solutions for thrust and bending moment coefficients, CT and CBe, are derived, where an interesting characteristic is revealed pertaining to their asymptotic behavior for λ→∞. In addition, the limit case of the non-rotating actuator disk for λ→0 is shown for all three performance coefficients by repeated use of L'Hôpital's theorem, and its validity is discussed in the context of other works since Glauert.

｢ The company that developed the new rocket, dubbed Spectrum, is German-based Isar Aerospace. Spectrum is 28 metres tall, composed of two stages and uses oxygen and propane as propellant. Isar Aerospace says the aim of the test flight, which will carry no payload, is “to collect as much data and experience as possible”. The company told New Scientist that its staff were all too busy preparing for its test flight for an interview ｣
