The World surpasses 40% clean electricity with Europe leading as a 'solar superpower'.

The world generated more than 40% of its electricity from low-carbon sources in 2024, for the EU it's 71%.

Solar energy is soaring in a targeted race to build an entirely clean electricity system. Solar in the EU almost doubled in the three years to 2024 to account for 11% of electricity.

This story about #Glasgow City Council's carbon-based #parking permits scheme mentions that "Private vehicles are currently the largest source of #carbon emissions in the city’s #transport system". That must be because almost all commuter #trains are electric, and most of the #buses, too

Is it so bad if there is less #globalisation and somewhat, less focus on shipping #trade goods around the globe, rather than locally?

I see that it's vital in some ways & a huge financial boost to countries which have something to offer, ofcourse, but I've often thought, it doesn't bode well for the #environment, globally. When I've heard ministers discussing trade agreements in the past, it seems contradictory to their other goals of reducing #carbon and #climate initiatives.

Any opinions?

We have been considering #solar panels at our home and I've been reading a bit more on the embedded #carbon to get a sense of the ERoEI ratio (energy return over energy invested). I found a really interesting paper written by some people a couple of hours to the north of us in #Ontario, #Canada that I'll link to below. I'd love for their conclusions to be incorrect and would be happy to read anything to the contrary. Thoughts anyone?

That flight I was hoping would stay cheap managed to stay. We didn't get the lowest fare I had seen (<$500) but snagged a $690 one way Westjet ticket, Nanaimo to Barcelona; cancellable/changeable and includes seats, checked bag, and carry-on. Incredible value.

It's also the lowest CO2 hit by air from Western Canada.

Hardware: (Canadian made) Dash 8 Turboprop from Nanaimo to Calgary (93kg pp) and B787 to Barcelona (425kg pp).

There are no direct flights to Spain west of Calgary. I'm frankly shocked AC or WS don't have a B777 or B787 in the summer and winter from Vancouver to Barcelona… it would fill! Perhaps its capacity on the Barcelona side that is full up.

I love the Dash 8. A little noisy compared to a standard jet, but I really like the feel of smaller aircraft. And they generally fly lower, so the views over the rockies especially are fantastic.
