I loathe how overpriced coffee chains are.
Even the Indian ones, like Cafe Coffee Day.

One tiny coffee costs some ₹350. :blobcatgoogly: That's like ₹40 per sip 😬

They don't even focus on the quality of food. Shitty portion sizes and shittier taste.

And the icing on the cake is that they want you to download their stupid apps, and share all your data with them so they can do their stupid personalisation.

I do like Chai Point, though! I can get a little tea for ₹23 :blobcatgiggle: And Chayoos too! And they got Free high-speed wi-fi! :amaze:

I had so many things to say about this book. There were so many things covered and interesting topics to go on and on about.

But I just want to harp on one thing: This is, without a doubt, the most important book I’ve ever read.

I’m not saying that it’s my FAVORITE book or anything - it is the most IMPORTANT book I’ve ever read. The kind of book you wish everyone would read because it covers something so well and so thoroughly that you know in your heart if everyone read it, we’d all get on the same page and move forward in a way that made more sense. That we would realize we’ve been sold an idea forever ago that will never come to fruition. That it IS possible to move forward. Together. Toward a better future.

Because this book is about America selling its soul and turning its back on the people and even the land.

People will be real quick to dismiss it because it’s old, but I promise you that it as applicable now as it was then. You read it and you can feel the truth and the danger of the truth. You get a real feel for why this book was banned. Why Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about it and why Rage Against the Machine covered that song. You get a feel for why Steinbeck says he was run out and almost killed in Oklahoma after the book had come out.

I would mention to people that I’m reading this book and they’d say “oh, that was a good movie.” I promise that, unless there was a 20-episode mini-series, it wouldn’t have the rage and sheer TEETH this book has.

Or they’d say “that’s about the dust bowl era, right?”

Partially, I guess, but that’s not what the book is about.

The is about humanity and humanity’s obligation to itself - our obligation to each other.

It is timeless and feels almost obligatory.

Normally I don’t say you should read a book. I don’t think it’s my place.

But if you haven’t read it, you should.

And if you HAVE, you should read it again.

To me, huge vehicles like this convey the message: ‘I’ve got what I need, everyone else can get forked’. Unsurprising that driving high status cars is associated with disregard for rules that might inconvenience the driver while protecting the safety of others. Speed limits are so annoying. It’s as if some of us live in the narrative frameworks employed in adventure movies: main character (me, very important); supporting cast (them, nameless, expendable). It’s toxic.

How can we turn our cultural expectations around so behaving in ways that promote the wellbeing of everyone, & the land, air & waters that sustain us, is what confers status & earns respect?

@ai6yr @briankrebs OFC this targets #TechIlliterates and the only effective means here are:

  1. Teach #TechLiteracy instead of consumerism.
  2. Mandate #confirmation & #notification - #PopUp|s for every use of #Clipboard (similar to #webcam use by websites)...
  3. Ban #JavaScript - seriously!
  4. Ban #Windows, because it's a #Govware, espechally since #Windows10 and even more so on #Windows11 that is *insecure in every configuration!
  5. Put #TechIlliterates before a system they can't feck up. I.e. @tails_live @tails / #Tails for that reason alone (can't run such commands if they neither got #root nor any #persistent #storage to target).
  6. Normalize the use of @torproject #TorBrowser!
  7. #Teach #tech #literacy instead of #consumerism!
  8. Ban #GAFAMs and their shitty products!
  9. Migrate every #TechIlliterate to #Linux and don't give them administrative privilegues.
  10. Teach tech literacy instead of consumerism!

I've posted before on how " " is socially unsustainable before. I just realized that it's even worse than these companies stealing our collective knowledge and selling it back to us for a price. They also control what we get back. The owner of the modle controls what it tells its users. Our "personal" based assistants only serve one mastet and it's not us I can tell you that much.

Let's spin a tale about our clothing, as they tell a story interwoven with identity, class, and self-expression. We'll unravel the stained truth about fashion’s impact and stitch together a future that mends our broken connections.
