I went to the coastal section of Big Basin (which lies between Pescadero and Santa Cruz) with my 4x5 Graflex Speedgraphic press camera and a tripod. Judging from the notches in the upper right corner of this contact print, this was shot on Ilford Delta 100. I think I printed this on warm tone paper in my darkroom. It's also possible that I toned it.

I got three usable negatives out of that trip, and this was the best one. I hope you like it. I really need to get back down there.

A black and white image with a warm tone to it's appearance. Mature trees of various sizes can be seen on either side of a path. Ferns cover the forest floor. Some of the tree leaves are lit by sunlight, though overall the forest is presented as rather dark. Possibly a result of my exposure setting, as the sky has no detail in it, suggesting that it was very bright. A compromise.

bright white flowers in a row, dotting the frame from the middle right to the bottom left with light grass visible in the background and flower parts in the fore. the entire image possess a haze, even near the center, small, round white flowers that are in focus. the grain from the film is medium to medium-fine.

From when I lived in Arvika a few years back, studying my first music degree. I had just gotten my Canon 7 back from service and took it for a walk in the cold winter. If I don't misremember, it was close to -20 c. The focusing mechanism of my Jupiter 8 almost froze solid and I couldn't focus properly, but the camera worked flawlessly.
