New Server Intro

I joined the Fediverse in Nov 2022 when Twitter originally caught fire. I was a “content creator” before it was a thing, and overshared severely. I’ve since acquired an allergy to big tech (ironically) and mainstream media.

I now just lurk (except for intro posts) to keep up with what’s happening in the world and its various interesting nooks and crannies. I very occasionally post things, perpetually judging myself as uninteresting.

I am, however, interested in what others do in green tech, FOSS and big tech alternatives, makers of especially fermented things, and people on life adventures.

I’m a second-hand train groupie, because my 4-year old goes bananas for anything related. As a result I’ve visited an above average number of train-focused attractions in NE England (there are so many more), and spend hours every month on Northern trains, and the Metro, even though I work from home.

My name's Shane. I live in Ireland. It's difficult to tell you who or what I am, because I change a lot. But there are are some defining characteristics, so I'll talk about those maybe.

I've had depressive periods of varying length and depth for more than 30 years (I'm mid-50s), and bouts of severe anxiety for almost as long. Sometimes I really, really, hate myself. So that's one thing.

I also have occasional moments of pure bliss, from little things. Watching a robin feed her mate, listening to some great music on a speeding bus, witnessing the triumph of an underdog.
