@joeldn, yup, I am well aware of @edward’s tool because we both co-presented about linking OSM with Wikidata (including demoing his tool) twice: once at State of the Map 2019...

commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fil

... and the other at WikidataCon 2019:

commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fil

Edward’s tool only adds wikidata=* tags and I usually do other edits and clean-ups so I still use #JOSM for editing. 😉

Continued thread

Even though AI-generated images are inexpensive—which is important for software projects run by volunteers—it feels like there is a fairly large rejection of those images within the community.

I love #JOSM but this move makes it look really unprofessional.

There is a ticket (josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/2) and a forum discussion (community.openstreetmap.org/t/) about this.

@Irelephant at least .osm files can be loaded in #JOSM, but if your extract is big enough (say, a city or bigger), it might clog it, since it will try to render _everything_. It's mostly aimed at loading changesets, not whole areas.

After that, it seems like you can convert the pbf into a SQLite/Spatialite DB and load it in #QGis, but you're already transforming the data.

EDIT: yay! Federation works! (Answered from Mastodon :)

Couple years ago I got sad every time I saw a good person I know fall for crypto and NFT. Now I get sad seeing good developers falling for AI.

I understand it is hard to resist huge corporations shoving it in your face, but we have more brains and love for people than corporations, we can know better.

(this is about #JOSM, yes.)

Feel free to (politely) share your opinions.
And I invite anyone to give their opinions in this thread even if you're in favour

AI images (def not random mice/rats etc) don't belong in #JOSM

#OpenStreetMap

TO BE VERY CLEAR: I'M NOT ATTACKING THE DEVS.
I'm just sharing my opinion that I think others have as well but might not put the effort into reporting

josm.openstreetmap.de#24124 (Please don't use AI images in JOSM) – JOSM

#JOSM devs are currently looking for people who can help with translations.

But if you are not interested, seeing those images on the home screen is an annoyance.

Here is how you can blank the entire page.
