Happy Easter to those who celebrate 🪺

Ok, I’m about to get my first #meshtastic device. Choosing one from #muziworks: either an R1 with external antenna or H2T (also with an external antenna and GPS).

Will be using it for fun and if need be - for communication in case of blackouts. Also will definitely take it on hikes.

Which one should I get?

Well...from the recommendation of someone on my local club Discord I finally threw my #Meshtastic node's antenna on my NanoVNA - I have a feeling this explains almost all of my issues with transmitting from indoors.

Lowest SWR is 1.5:1 at 820-850MHz. At 902MHz, where I'm attempting to transmit, it's ~2.8:1. That's a ton of loss for the already low power levels!

Now I'm on the hunt for a new antenna, if anyone has a recommendation.

so @lmorchard just made me aware of #MeshTastic and now I am intrigued. As far as I understand there are different frequencies used in different regions. Am I correct that 868Mhz is the one that I want in Europe (Germany)? Is any of my European followers into MeshTastic and can recommend some hardware? (I am reading up on it in parallel but would love to hear personal experiences)

Oh no, I made another Meshtastic node... now I just don't know where to put this one, I already have 4 other nodes:

1 portable, 1 at a remote site, 2 at home. One of them I want to put in my car but with this yellow one I again will have two at home. I Have to find a place for it somewhere else I guess 🙂

It's a Xiao ESP32S3 Wio-SX1262, the case is available here:
