Phil<p><span>Factors:<br>1. Accessibility. Not everyone has really fast (or stable) internet.<br>2. Environmental. There's no reason to use more computing power than necessary for the task at hand. It's wasteful. Very few people </span><i>need</i><span> the fancy features advanced text editors introduce. <br>3. Interoperability. Text files I write and send are readable *everywhere.* Try loading up Google Docs on a 1024x768 screen with a 256MB RAM Pentium 3. You'll be lucky if Google Docs even loads.<br>4. Privacy. A text file is easy to protect. GPG is the most straightforward. It remains small, and there's no way middle-men can read it. Google Docs? Google has root and they're not encrypted from them. So, good luck.<br>5. Account requirements. Text files require no accounts anywhere. All you need it an Internet connection and a DNS server that'll point your computer the right way. SaaS requires that you also have up-to-date software, a powerful computer, and that you register an account with them to access files shared with you.<br>6. Storage space. A text file takes kilobytes. A .docx file takes megabytes. My daily journal, which granted has some meta-data but </span><i>is</i> still plain text, is nearing on 580kb after <i>three years</i><span> of diligent, detailed journaling. I can't help but doubt that Word would even open a .docx file that large if formatted natively. (Thousands of headings, links, timestamps, etc.)<br>6. Feature-set. Plain text lets you do enough for 99% of all tasks. Yes, it's not as pretty, but within the bounds of putting characters into a file, you have complete freedom. Proprietary services, on the other hand, have a very very rich feature-set, most of which is irrelevant for 99% of users. The drawback of this is that every user is forced to load these rarely-used functions onto their own computer when the applications load up. That's wasteful, and likely cost the world hundreds of millions in unnecessary energy expenditure already.<br><br>TL;DR: Use plain text unless you absolutely positively can't help it. Oliver⚡Manchmal lese ich Beiträge und Kommentare über "moderne Laufschuhe" und es zuckt in meinen Fingern dazu auch was beizutragen. Und dann lasse ich es vernünftigerweise. Was weiß ich schon von Laufschuhen?!<br>Ich weiß nur was mir gut getan hat: keine Sprengung, keine Dämpfung (bzw so wenig wie möglich), keine Pronationshilfe (Leute! Das ist ein Marketingtrick!!), keine Stabilisierungen irgendwelcher Art, viel Platz für die Zehen.<br>Da bleibt dann nicht mehr soviel 😉<br>Sehr richtig ist aber auch: wer so minimal laufen möchte, muss Zeit und Geduld investieren. Beides lohnt sich. cyReligious types don't think their god is omnipotent. You just sound silly to them, when you prove that omnipotence is a logical contradiction. In their own teachings, they have their god defeated, stymied, frustrated, even enraged by the actions of others. Only very obscure sects say that humans can do no wrong because it's all part of God's plan. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindi, Buddhists especially, all earnestly believe that their god is not all powerful. Hedgewizard 🐈<p>The decline of search engine usefulness over the last twelve months seems quite startling. Both Google (which I try not to use) and Duckduckgo (which is where I fell back to) are easily gamed by AI generated content. </p><p>In turn this extruded info product - this mistruthpaste - is getting harder for me to detect. These days I can be two or three paras into an article before I realize that it's smooth pappy infostuff that likely won't tell me anything I don't already know. It has no nifty insight born of personal experience because the internet gold that I'm panning for has been averaged down into the beige. </p><p>So what future? Gente que no tiene ninguna intención de informarse de por qué funciona el mundo (o más bien por qué NO funciona) "No sé, no me interesa..." "son todos iguales" "son todos unos ladrones" "el comunismo y el nazismo son lo mismo" "Hitler era socialista..." y ese tipo de frases me tocan las pelotas. Porque ese espacio vacío de ideología lo termina llenando siempre el resentimiento, y en ese resentimiento es donde crecen los bichos como Milei. <br>La gente de hoy suele elegir una cosa, y hacer de esa su personalidad. "Soy Gamer, no me importa la política" "ay no sé nada de eso, estudio medicina. Ya te dije que estudio medicina??" "lo único que me importa es ganar la sexta" y asusta lo poco que saben de cualquier otra cosa que no sea su nicho. Estoy hablando de gente que no tiene hobbies, que no tiene intereses por fuera de su área de trabajo/estudio (si estudia o trabaja), qué le preguntás que van a votar, y se enojan, que te dice que "ideología" es mala palabra (Como si se le pudiera escapar a la ideología de alguna manera...)</p><p>En fin, esa gente está creciendo, y la apatía es el peor sentimiento que una sociedad puede permitirse. Hay que intentar enderezar el rumbo. En el caso uruguayo me parece que nuestro mayor problema es la laicidad de la que nos jactamos en nuestro sistema educativo, está mal entendida, y por lo tanto, mal ejecutada. Si no le podemos decir a los pibes que los nazis eran unos hijos de puta porque "la laicidad" algo mal estamos haciendo, y con eso otros mil ejemplos. </p><p>Prefiero que la gente sea de derecha a que no sea de nada, si tenés algún respaldo político ideológico te banco (salvo que seas nazi, ahí como decía el graffiti a la vuelta de mi casa "Nazis a la morgue").<br>Pero no podemos seguir permitiendo que esta apatía política siga creciendo.
