I'm not new here but i haven't done an #introduction to the #fediverse yet.
Hello, I'm Chase. 28, Developer from Germany. At work i meddle with Kotlin, Web and Android development while at home I'm a contributor to the #telegram java library, I'm interested in #electronics and #woodworking and about a year ago i dove into the #yesterweb, of which I'm actually now part of (https://chasenet.neocities.org)
I also attend #ccc events like #GPN22.
Aside from that i like birds and #sailing
New #blog post on #Linux Kernel Self-Protection. My blog is entirely written using #Emacs and I am having some trouble with #LaTeX,
but I thought I would go ahead and share since I haven't published anything in almost a year. Also have 2 other blog posts that are recent and these all are basically my notes for future ref, still worth sharing, enjoy!
Not an endorsement as I've never used them, but thought some out there may be interested in a NeoCities alternative I haven't seen discussed much: NekoWeb
Been fiddling around with this blog/website, need to make it a little bit better but hey, I posted a new blog entry about the nostalgia of the yesterweb. (Also will probably need to figure out the social media cards that show up when you link websites)
https://missymjwrites.neocities.org/BLOG/posts/01-02-2024-Yesterweb-Nostalgia
At all the #retroweb #yesterweb #webdev coders, what tools and frameworks do you use for coding your #personalwebsites?
I'm having a hard time finding tools and frameworks that works without admin access to a server, which I don't have on my webspace - #ftp only, #oldweb #Web1_0 style.
This is really silly, but I find it heartwarming to see that this guy still has his joy and sense of humour after two decades. This is one of the rare youtube videos where it is worth reading the comment section. #yesterweb #oldinternet https://youtu.be/ZBKm1MBsTbk?si=NEzjoKdGm5bKcG8V
I reworked my pixel art adoptables / toybox page on my #neocities site to be part shrine to the toybox era of the early 2000s, so if you like that #OldWeb nostalgia, please take a look and enjoy: https://lostletters.neocities.org/toybox/ It's also my super late submission for the #OldWebNostalgiaJam I'm really proud of how my first attempt at coding a flexbox page turned out! #yesterweb
The second 32bit.cafe Community #codejam theme is "character", so you know I had to make a tamagotchi shrine. I'm definitely more than a little rusty when it comes to coding, but the shrine is looking so cute! I can't wait to share it. If you're 18+ and want to join in on the jam, check it out here: https://tilde.32bit.cafe/~hermit/community_jam_2/ #yesterweb #indieweb folks, don't miss this!
Found this incredible book at the airport library that has screenshots of the Japanese web circa 2000. #OldWeb #yesterweb #pekochan
Just a reminder that constantly trying to "debate" each other online just ruins everything. https://sadgrl.online/cyberspace/internet-manifesto #yesterweb #socialmedia #oldweb #indieweb #sadgirl
Submitted my aliased site for the Yesterweb webring. Kept checking - nothing. Suddenly today there's a note on the site that they're shutting it down, with an explanation on their forums:
https://forum.yesterweb.org/viewtopic.php?p=4611#p4611
With the understanding that moderation is hard, and thankless, etc, it feels perhaps not great that they've shuttered a bunch of their services (discord, webring) once they start gaining traction.
Spent a bit too much time browsing random sites from many #webrings such as the #fediring and #yesterweb
very fun, again.

Explore it! Join it! Show some love for all the time and effort put into it!
Stop letting the internet revolve around giant corporate sites. Thank you.
Discovered the best way to explore #Neocities / #yesterweb : the districts.
Sites are organized into categories named after real life cities (well except purgatory and the Petsburg pun). Some of the listings have their site buttons displayed to better distinguish them.
Such a fun way to surf the web
While diving ever deeper into the #yesterweb / #indieweb and the #fediverse and having just rediscovered #knoppix with its #compiz composer and its own style i realise that we -while having gained power- have lost one thing for a long time in the computer hobby: FUN
Creating things not to promote oneself or build a marketable portfolio but just because it can be done and doing could be fun.
I am glad to have (re-) discovered that.
I want to thank sadgrl https://sadgrl.online/ for re-introducing me to the yesterweb and reminding me that you can have quirky fun websites that also use cool modern techniques.
Let's have more background images and auto-playing midi soundtracks ...
I was today years old when I found out hit neocities site: https://yesterweb.org has a mastodon instance: https://social.yesterweb.org/about
nothing too important, I just thing it's neat.
