I set up phone systems for work - VOIP sacrifices resilience for convenience, and has pushed the requirement for backup power supplies to the enduser (I'm also sceptical that VDSL or fibre networks will keep going for hours after a power cut as the street cabinets just have the same batteries as a large UPS unlike the huge battery in a traditional Telephone Exchange - do the telcos even check the telemetry and maintain the batteries?)

@vfrmedia @sidereal @cam We don't even have the cabinet power with FTTC (Australia NBN). The four houses connected to the micro Node do the powering. I have 4G internet, and have made a cable that powers the router from a gel cell. Has saved me during power cuts. No requirement for battery backup on VoIP service, but it is an option for those on FTTH. nbnco.com.au/learn/network-tec
