TIL: an exhausted can cause to behave strangely after a hard (caused by a being incorrectly turned off) - it uses the BIOS time to check the filesystem block timestamps, and as it had gone back to 2012 the OS thinks the filesystem time is in the future! (At least the hard drive on this server isn't on the way out yet which is what I had feared, but this required an emergency visit to the office as it is the main )

Linux terminal screen, a filesystem check has failed as the PC system time has switched to 2012 due to an exhausted CMOS battery (when it is 2025!)
CR2032 battery on motherboard was exhausted
BIOS clock had reset to 2012-01-01 00:00

@vfrmedia ? On the machines I have with dead CMOS batteries, a hard boot forces you into the BIOS to change the date before the file system is touched.

@lemgandi I've seen this occur on other machines, but this one (Lenovo Thinkserver) didn't..
