The plot, specifically, is a mishmash of influences: a combination of my own highschool experiences, bits of the spine of Star Wars, I think some Harry Potter ended up in there (shudder), and there's a seam of anime *stuff* throughout, I think.

It's a good story, and it's told at children's level. This doesn't mean dumbing it down. It means keeping to their point of view and to the things that are important to them. I mean, kids read superhero comics, which were about adults, for DECADES.
I just finally realized why I don't like using "MC" for "main character."
It's because I was a theatre kid, and "MC" stands for "master of ceremonies."

At first, not really. She grew up an extremely safe, tolerant environment, so she never developed the skill of being able to tell when an adult was about to be enraged at her. She learns quickly once she's abducted into a paramilitary assassin cult.

I got moving on the draft this month. I want to keep doing that. It's that German concept, sitzfleisch: get your ass in the chair and do it.

Monday, Mastodonians. My contract ends today. All the work is done and the clients are happy.
It was a pleasure to work with these folks, and an honour to do build something that helps so many.
Now, time to write stuff.

I have cats. They hang in the office. Sometimes, one of the curls up in front me, against my chest, while I work.
It's 15 days to the release of Memories of Sorcery and Sand (have you preordered it yet?), but I'm already working on my next book, and it's going... as expected.
I'm quite sure that in the end, I'll have exactly enough story for one book, but until then, it's a vicious circle.
