De-Googling Update: That’s it, I’ve done it. I’ve officially broken up with Google.
No more Gmail, no more Google services. I wasn’t exactly a superfan to begin with, but even so, I was still surprised to see just how much of my data had accumulated there over the years.
It's a clean break, a small act of rebellion, if you will. And it feels good.
Google screwed up so badly over the years that there's now a wikipedia page about degoogling
@boombasti @saxx Merci!
@ocdtrekkie @sheogorath yes this is definitely true! For example I see you have a separately hosted gitlab offsite. This is what I am trying to achieve to go from my home stuff being tinkering & services that work well enough as a proof of concept / nice to have to a home production setup that can be trusted for #degoogle I think I can get my uptime high enough using something similar to what you have documented....
to be continued….
Hi, I’m new here on raphus.social and Mastodon in general—still getting my bearings, but ready to raise some hell. I’m diving headfirst into Linux, privacy, open source, and learning how to code so I can fight back with tech. DeGoogling my life one step at a time.
I may be 5'4", but every inch of me is furious about the direction the US is heading. I refuse to sit back and watch The Handmaid’s Tale become a documentary. I’m here to connect with others who believe in digital resistance, community defense, and building something better.
Latest nerd accomplishment: flashed Ubuntu Touch onto this newly acquired second hand Poco XF3-NFC. Need to test the newly added feature of VoLTE support on this (for calling over 4g, a requirement here in the USA now), if that is working then I could actually use this as a daily driver. #linuxmobile #ubuntutouch #ubports #foss #smartphones #degoogle #android #privacy
In preparation for the #degoogle workshop at #eh22 i installed #eos on my (luckily old) OnePlus N10. After the initial installation seemed to have been successful I tried to lock the bootloader again
Now I get an "your device is corrupt" error and it won't boot. Unlocking the bootloader via fastboot doesn't work because it is locked
Is there anyone at #eh22 who can help me to unbrick the phone?

Oh, also, @nextcloud looks like it could well be a viable replacement for Dropbox - in fact, having now installed the NC app on my phone & laptop there's a direct through-line from my phone's camera to the computer
Ever the IT skeptic there will be an evaluation period but it's looking pretty good & so far setup has been almost comically smooth...

Turns out I would, in fact, like to have a Google Docs alternative, so now I'm trying out @nextcloud via a personal (free) account at The Good Cloud - gotta say, looks pretty promising...
If it works out I may even consider buying some more storage & using it for photos etc.; already tested uploading from my phone & there seems to be an auto-sync function - might alleviate my problems getting pics & vids off the iPhone
I spent some time on whether I can #deGoogle my android 10 phone, I find that it not listed among the supported models at sites of e/OS or GrapheneOS.
I guess that I don't have too much of options here.
May be I should just use current phone until it breaks into pieces or until I will not be able to install an impoertant app (as it happened with my former tablet with android 4.4.4).
