GaH Learner<p>630. Is your MC receptive to warnings and advice given by others?</p><p>Bella is stubborn. She listens to advice and warnings, but doesn't always heed it. And sometimes she learns the hard way. 😁</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/PennedPossibilities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PennedPossibilities</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>31. **Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility!** What trans author has inspired you the most?</p><p>The most? That would be <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://sakurajima.moe/@NaraMoore" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>NaraMoore</span></a></span> </p><p>and Christine Lemmer-Webber, without whom we wouldn't be here.</p><p><a href="https://troet.cafe/@cwebber@octodon.social/109388563832477458" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">troet.cafe/@cwebber@octodon.so</span><span class="invisible">cial/109388563832477458</span></a></p><p>All the trans authors here inspire me because they are courageous and, despite having to face so much anatgonism, keep going, are creative, and are role models for perseverance.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>31. SC POV: What's your idea of a romantic evening?</p><p>Pepper Whitecrane says, "I would serenade my love with a song I'd have written just for her. Then, depending on where we were, we'd dine on the best fare I could find. The best wine, but not too much, we wouldn't want to be drunk later. A walk under a starlit sky when it's in dry season, otherwise we'd watch the clouds race each other. Then we'd retire, and the rest would be none of your business."</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WordWeavers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WordWeavers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>31. How did it go? Were you able to work on the things you wanted to?</p><p>Yes and no. Overall it was a great month. But the things I had planned for this month were a bit on the back burner.</p><p>I did some good edits for the WIP</p><p>I solved a problem with the crochet slippers I wanted to finish. I wanted a sole, preferrably upcycled. I've now made some denim yarn from old jeans and will crochet them into soles, attach them, and hopefully finish in April.</p><p>Other things see 3/29</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/ScribesAndMakers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScribesAndMakers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>30. Do you label your works as LGBTQIA+? Why or why not?</p><p>No, because that would be false advertising. My stories don't have LGBTQIA2S+ as focus so they wouldn't be a good representation. I wouldn't do it justice. I'm straight, grew up ignorant and prejudiced, and still learn what I can, but I couldn't write it.<br>That said, all my fictional worlds have queer people, who aren't called that because gender and preference is no one else's business but their own.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>629. How did you break into publishing? (If you’re already published, of course.) </p><p>Hm. I was unaware that publishing works that way. I guess I'd take a pry bar, bolt cutter, lockpick set... a sledgehammer would probably be too much? <br>(Not into publishing, as you can guess. 😉 )</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/PennedPossibilities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PennedPossibilities</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>30. What do your characters get nostalgic about? What triggers that?</p><p>Bella is too young to get nostalgic often. Her heart skips a beat when she sees something in the castle that had belonged to her dead brothers, and she wistfully remembers their childhood pranks.<br>Calanthe often thinks of the family she's lost in the war, she doesn't need triggers for that.<br>The same is true for most other characters.<br>The queen is so full of hatred, she doesn't have time for nostalgy.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WordWeavers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WordWeavers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>29. How do you handle foreshadowing? How do you navigate building up to the ‘big reveal’?</p><p>When I start a new story, I only have a vague idea where I'm going, the details are pantsed, so I don't do deliberate foreshadowing.<br>While editing the finished rough draft, I often find phrases and snippets that could be foreshadowing, so I can tweak them and make them stronger or more subtle. I love these moments of 'writing magic'.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>628. Tell us about the trauma your antagonist / villain has endured. (If they have any.)</p><p>I don't think that the queen would call it a trauma, she doesn't think of herself that way and would consider it a weakness, but the death of her husband and two sons on the same day on the battlefield did affect her greatly. Her hatred and rage against the Elfen have quadrupled since then. So has her disappointment in her daughter Bluebell, the MC.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/PennedPossibilities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PennedPossibilities</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>29. What superpower would best suit your MC, in the context of their story?</p><p>Bella already has a superpower, but she doesn't know it yet.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WordWeavers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WordWeavers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>29. What is your proudest or best moment with your creative endeavor this month?</p><p>I had a few good moments this month. </p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://sakurajima.moe/@NaraMoore" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>NaraMoore</span></a></span> agreed to be my alpha reader, and that's a big thing for me. Someone else who reads my stuff other than me. I cringe a bit when I send something but her comments are super-helpful. </p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/ScribesAndMakers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScribesAndMakers</span></a> kept me motivated. I really like the community that is emerging here.</p><p>And don't forget: tomorrow is a TTMD with <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/@sfwrtr" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sfwrtr</span></a></span> </p><p> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>28. **Happy Respect Your Cat Day!** Who or what accompanies you when you write?</p><p>This.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>627. How does your MC have their home decorated?</p><p>Bella lives in Ravenhold Castle (and for short periods in Winter in the royal palace in the capitol) and the decoration is out of her hands. It's tastefully pompous, full of history and tradition.<br>Her own chambers have as little pomp as possible, she prefers something like english country home style.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/PennedPossibilities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PennedPossibilities</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>28. What gives your characters a sense of self-worth or meaning in their life?</p><p>This isn't something they talk about. They all do what they think is needed for their world, and they do it as best they can.<br>Most also worship Danaria Worldmother which is basically their version of nature.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WordWeavers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WordWeavers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>28. What would your best creative life look like if you weren't bound by reality?</p><p>I would live in a world that had the values and rules of Startrek before everything goes downhill in Nemesis.<br>I would live on an island between Vancouver Island and the mainland. I'd have a large house there where other creatives also live, and yet others come for regular retreats. <br>We'd have robots that cook and clean for us unless someone wants to cook.<br>Surrounded by nature. The ocean. </p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/ScribesAndMakers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScribesAndMakers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>27. What’s the strangest situation or place where you’ve written?</p><p>Before smartphones and tablets, there were Palm handhelds. I had one of those, it had a little stylus for the tiny keyboard. I used to read pdf books on it, and sometimes wrote in the car (not driving myself). <br>Nothing really strange. I need to be comfortable when I want to write.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>626 — MC POV: Are you afraid of your capabilities? </p><p>Bella says, "Yes and no. I've only recently learned about my true capabilities. And this is scaring me less than not knowing did. I'm still not sure what to do with it exactly, so it still is a bit scary, but I'm not a threat to other people if that's what you mean."</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/PennedPossibilities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PennedPossibilities</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>27. What small precious memento does a character keep on their person? What makes it precious?</p><p>Bella has a silver locket that contains hair from her dead brothers and father, and later something from her lover.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WordWeavers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WordWeavers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>27. Were you ever discouraged by great art of someone else?</p><p>No. I admire. I have a tiny talent, but never pursued it with dedication. That doesn't discourage me. I do me, I'll never be a master, and that's OK.<br>I'm not like Lady Catherine de Bourgh in Austen's Pride and Prejudice who said, "There are few people in England, I suppose, who have more true enjoyment of music than myself, or a better natural taste. If I had ever learnt, I would have been a great proficient."</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/ScribesAndMakers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScribesAndMakers</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
GaH Learner<p>26. About which format or style choices are you the most uncertain?</p><p>I've learned that my favourite POV, close first present, isn't liked by many people for whatever reason. Doesn't make me uncertain, I write it anyway. <br>In general I'm uncertain about everything, but now I have an alpha and a beta reader (if I can get her out of hibernation) who help.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GL325" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GL325</span></a></p>
