This Is My Glasgow<p>This tenement on High Street in Glasgow is built on the site of the now long-gone Burrell's Hall. Daniel Burrell was a Glasgow Dance master who set up a large hall here in the 1730s as a home for his dance school and as a place to hold grand balls for Glasgow's rapidly expanding upper classes. This Is My Glasgow<p>I love coming across a threshold mosaic in an old Glasgow building. This one is particularly pretty. This Is My Glasgow<p>Love the gable and tempietto on the top of the former British Linen Bank at 215 High Street in central Glasgow. Designed by William Forrest Salmon, it was built 1895. This Is My Glasgow<p>A plaque marking the birthplace of the Romantic poet Thomas Campbell at 215 High Street in Glasgow, and his statue in nearby George Square. This Is My Glasgow<p>The firm they all worked for, started by James Salmon Senior in the 1830s, eventually morphed into Gillespie, Kidd and Coia, the legendary mid-20th Century Modernist architectural practice run by Jack Coia. Hambone Fakenamington<p>The high street is dead. This is a Boots pharmacy in a major town. So much unused empty space and "stuff" just left in corners etc.. It feels like an airport concourse or underpass rather than a shop. Such a strange uninviting atmosphere. Dr Pen<p>Imagine what would start to happen in local communities if everyone just deleted their gig economy accounts en masse? Every Uber, AirBnB, Wolt, Bolt, JustEat, Deliveroo, every other 'service' that gives the user convenience and 'savings' without encountering local people directly. All of this service money could be going to local business, local people, without the huge cut that the massive companies take.
