"...much of the research into multicast is funded and driven by large corporations, who have no interest in many-to-many communication, and no interest in human rights. The primary focus of most of these corporations is in building one-to-many systems that reduce their costs for providing livestreaming of sponsored events. Multicast to them is an advertising delivery system. This more closely resembles broadcast than multicast."

Just a reminder that you can - and arguably should - move your Free Code development activities off GritHub;

"The Librecast Project has moved it's public code mirrors to Codeberg. As a Free Software project we cannot stand idly by while GitHub breaks both the spirit and the letter of our software licenses with their CoPilot programme."

They've even shared the script they used for the transition;

Yes, I was similarly delighted, but found out very late. Hopped on a session.. hoping to be able to hop onto some more.

I also watched the start of a true must-see video by Brett Sheffield of @librecast ..

Last night I started my laptop on the process of dumping something like 5000 test runs archived in raw binary data files in tar balls inside a tarball into a SQLite database. This morning I had something like 20GB SQLite file and it appears to have worked so now we are in a place to do some data analysis on how well multicast methods for software updates worked relative to each device downloading its own copy of the software update. #librecast @dentangle

"The #Librecast Project is building the software required to rebuild our internet using #multicast, with privacy, accessibility, and efficiency as design goals from the outset. Multicast delivers networking with consent. You only receive the data you subscribe to and can unsubscribe anytime. Each platform user will be in control by allowing the end user to choose which channels to subscribe to and leaving rendering until as late as possible."

@yhancik and damn (to deviate, following the netart thread) ... when I remember those years, and the creativity there was in network connected performances, it was mad compared to what happens nowadays ...

I'm quite chocked and despaired when I see the way things has became linear again, with "connected performances" as a 1D timeline lineup of 1 person projects, or zoom-call-as-art-stream without tech, design, scenography nor narration

I wish we had some € for a future #librecast art event ❤️

It's a new release of #Librecast and it's a huge one! 🎉

The release adds the new Router API, the socket OIL filter, and a whole bunch of other new API calls, fixes and improvements.

This work was funded by @nlnet through @NGIAssure

Codeberg.orglibrecastLibrecast is a project to provide fast, efficient and scalable communication by leveraging IPv6 multicast.

Working on Librecast allows us to do something positive while working on exciting and challenging technical problems.

We don’t do this alone. We have no competitors. Everyone who is working to improve and protect Human Rights is our ally. There are many paths to the top of this mountain.

We spoke to @EC_NGI about our work funded by @NGIAssure and what we've been able to build thanks to the support from @nlnet and it's partners.

lcrq v0.2.1 has been uploaded to Debian Unstable and repolology has noticed.

Unfortunately this turns all older versions red. I wish there was some way to customize this, so that only unsupported versions showed up red, and current versions were some neutral colour.

Is it the Chinese who think of red as being a positive colour? Perhaps we should consider the red versions are "mature" 😃

We've got some awesome functionality coming soon in the 0.9 release of #librecast!

How do we support large numbers of #multicast groups without putting undue strain on routers?

Current solutions of simple linked lists don't scale to lots of multicast groups.

We've got a good idea for how to solve this. Counted Bloom filters for your Outgoing Interface List. (OIL) filter.

Thanks to @nlnet and #NGIAssure for funding this work.
