Shaula Evans<p>I love my little indoor garden. In my isolated life, my plants are my only tactile contact with other living things; they're good for my spirits and mental health.</p><p>However, I'm not producing food in meaningful quantities. It's a joy-giving hobby, nothing more.</p><p>If anyone has successful set up indoor gardens to produce significant amounts of food, I would love to hear about what you're doing. My stress would be lower with a bit more food independence.</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/IndoorGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IndoorGardening</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Hydroponics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hydroponics</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Microgreens</span></a></p>

Ian Rose<p>All of the microgreen batches I've grown so far have been a single species, and generally I do prefer it that way (similar height for easy cutting, can tweak conditions and timing for particular species). But this was my first mixed greens batch, and it came out great. I think I'll do one of these every 3-4 from now on, for the sake of variety. </p><p><a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/GrowFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GrowFood</span></a></p>
Applenotthecomputer<p>Growing up on the <a href="https://applenotthecomputer.online/tags/homestead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homestead</span></a> , we grew and ate a ton of <a href="https://applenotthecomputer.online/tags/winter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>winter</span></a> <a href="https://applenotthecomputer.online/tags/squash" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>squash</span></a> . Some friends gifted us some <a href="https://applenotthecomputer.online/tags/organic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>organic</span></a> acorn squash from their <a href="https://applenotthecomputer.online/tags/farm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>farm</span></a> , so I decided to make some squash puree like we had when I was a kid. I topped it with mild blend <a href="https://applenotthecomputer.online/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a> from our plant nursery. This is a very nutritious and delicious dish.</p>
Ian Rose<p>It's not a perfect batch, but I'm happy with today's harvest of daikon radish microgreens. Considering that it's older seed and my first batch using my new light timer, very happy. </p><p><a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/GrowFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GrowFood</span></a></p>
Ian Rose<p>Now that outside gardening is just about done here, it's time to start up this winter's first round of microgreens. This is a batch of diakon radish, and should be ready to harvest and eat in about a week. <br><a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/GrowFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GrowFood</span></a></p>
Flying_Donny for democracy<p>Good morning, Mastodon friends! The daikon radish seeds that I planted on 11/13 have germinated, and I uncovered the container and moved it to a south window. The microgreens will green up and be ready to eat in another couple of days. The pea shoots need another day or two of darkness in the warmer kitchen before they're ready to move.<br>I'm aiming for a little extra walking for the dogs today since it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow.<br>Have a safe, good day, all.</p><p><a href="https://med-mastodon.com/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a></p>
Flying_Donny for democracy<p>I decided this would be a good time to get back into growing microgreens, so out came my trusty carry-out food containers and coffee can lids. One bowl is pea shoots and the other is daikon radish microgreens. They'll stay in the warm kitchen until the seeds have germinated and then move into the south window in the living room. The radish ones should be ready in a week or so. The pea shoots will take a few days longer. <a href="https://med-mastodon.com/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a></p>
Shaula Evans<p>Space Station Garden Report! I harvested succssful batches of microgreens yesterday: Violet Radish and Daikon Radish. I might harvest them a little earlier next time as they wound up spicier than I expected.</p><p>Today I planted two new batches: Amaranth and Cabbage. I've never grown either before. I'm really excited to see how they grow and how they taste as microgreens.</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Microgreens</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/IndoorGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IndoorGardening</span></a></p>
Jules<p>I also thought this was a very cool bit of circular repurposing - the herb roots grow in a mat within the <a href="https://social.coop/tags/hydroponic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hydroponic</span></a> tube, which they peel out to clean the tubes when the crops have finished. They dry them off and then use them to grow <a href="https://social.coop/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a> on, then eventually the whole thing gets composted. </p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/Permaculture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Permaculture</span></a></p>

Vereesh<p>I love sunflower microgreens, they're my favorite, and thanks to Mike Van Duzee's brilliant new method, I can grow them, and lots of others with almost no effort. I'll say more about it in the next post. The picture is pink because of my grow lights. <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/hydroponics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hydroponics</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a></p>
Flying_Donny for democracy<p>Today I also planted a couple of trays of microgreen seeds. Carry-out food containers with holes punche din the bottom for drainage are perfect for this -- I put the covers on to keep moisture in while the seeds germinate and then remove the covers when the seedlings emerge and need light. I planted half a bowl of each of 4 favorites -- daikon radish (fastest growing), amaranth (beautiful), and chard and broccoli (healthiest). <a href="https://med-mastodon.com/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microgreens</span></a></p>
