#AskFedi Does anyone have good recommendations for a #linux software/software pipeline I can use to tile a single svg image into a 4x4 grid of tiles for printing?

So far, I've hacked it with a random html file or with PDF mix tool to turn it into 16 pages that I then print out with Firefox's 16 pages per page mode, but I'd like to have a better trick to do it the third time that comes up. 😅

I was just in printing mood again after - I think it is months since I printed my last photo. - But it still is a good feeling to hold the photo as a physical piece in my hands.

You might also know this photo from my last blog post: franzgraf.de/blog/2025/shapes-

(And I noticed that I'm not 100% sure about the printing-options in Lightroom. I think I need to check out some tutorials.)

Just ran into a brutal #UI / #UX problem in LibreOffice Calc, on a Debian bookworm system, fully up to date.

1. Decide to print spreadsheet
2. Open print dialog
3. Preview is in the left pane, options in the right.
4. Scroll down in the options pane to find an option near the bottom.
5. Change setting, or not.
6. Scroll back up to the top of the options pane, using the pointing device vertical scroll wheel.
7. If the "number of copies" scrollbox happens to pass under the mouse pointer, it will rapidly increase the number of copies. It's not particularly obvious this is happening; it's easy to miss the value is changing.
8. Move the mouse pointer slightly up and scrolling the options pane continues.
9. Click "print".

Voila! 23 copies of what you wanted to print a single copy of.

I actually ran into this while trying to debug a totally different UI / UX bug 😱

Computer printing history question: Why is imposition such a pain? At what level is “a page” so different from “this graphic” that imposition is still handled by different software than the rest of page layout?

Historical quirks and links to explanations, vague memories of subtle bugs, all welcome.

#printing #layout #typesetting (not using imposition as a hashtag because it's a lively one with a different meaning)

I had to cut the pages at a printing shop because without a hydraulic guillotine, neatly cutting so much paper is just not possible. I've tried many methods but ended up with just uneven and ragged pages.

For binding, i chose the "perfect binding" technique with a softcover. It seems to be the easiest and least labour intensive. Binding the pages was actually easier than i thought.

I've designed the cover around a stunning artwork by Suzuka Youraku. Here is her pixiv page: pixiv.net/en/users/53055517
Full cover can be accessed here: drive.proton.me/urls/4ZWBW7ZHH

In the end, I'm happy with the result. It cost me very little. In total the 400 pages book came at around maybe 5€ to make :blob_rave:

Before printing the book, I had to learn how to format text and design the pages. I opted for printing four pages per A4 sheet, which was not all that easy when printing about 400 pages which then need to be flipped and printed over again.

I'm using Scribus for the layouts. It's clunky and annoying but it's opensource and free. I've included the source file here: drive.proton.me/urls/4DQVGYRVY if anyone wants to try and print this book by themselves :blob_nom_cookie:

I love this poem based on days of setting type by hand in the printing industry.

The Ghillie Spotter without mask. I think it came out good.

Hopefully this will give a more "easy to paint" approach without needing to finesse anything else to the end user, and end up having an "acceptable" compromise.

However that's something I will end up seeing with the model once it's released and I get feedback from miniature painters and those who are gonna play with it!

Book crafting has been living in head non stop ever since i've read my first fanfiction novel. I just had to have certain works on my bookshelf and so i did :blob_rave: This project began with scoring a second-hand inkjet printer for just 8€. The Epson stylus SX235W is old but it still works just fine. I have working ink cartridges for it too, so it is just a matter of refilling them with ink and resetting the chips, and i saw many offers on local marketplace where people sell old ink cartridges for pennies so the whole operation should be inexpensive at worse

“While Bambu’s touchscreen and #software does a wonderful job easing newcomers into #printing, #cutting, and #etching, and it’s got more cameras and #algorithms than ever before (including #LIDAR, timelapse, a new nozzle #camera and a bird’s eye camera too), I’m actually finding its basic #3DPrinting modes aren’t as reliable yet as other printers I’ve used.”

It's coming along nicely. It's been a tad harder working without ADHD Meds but I'm managing.

Every person will have these 3 options, for all their poses. Rebreather, gasmask and just the balaclava.

Fun part? Whicever body you want. They all take the same parts. :)

Next it's the sniper guy! Exciting!

(Apologizes for the dirty balaclava one! Just made a homemade drier, used for the other two pre-curing)
