In Latvian tradition the November Cross-quarter Day #Mārtiņi (November 6ish) between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice (root of #Samhain, #AllHallowsEve, #Halloween, #Divali etc) marks the beginning of winter and end of the Time of Spirits. Time to remember and welcome, celebrate lost loved ones before the veil between our world and theirs 'closes' again.
Blog post and video from last year.

Sunday- day of the #AutumnEquinox was a bit rainy off and on, so I didn't do my main seasonal/remembrance altar (that was yesterday instead, posts yet to come!). Instead, I went for a bit of a #SlowWalk and made an impromptu altar with some odds and ends I picked up along the way-added to a bench that had bits of wood I kept aside from last winter's woodcutting. 1-As we enter Autumn, here's a look back to fresh, green mid-summer. I've just finished pulling together videos + photos for a Summer Solstice blog post. Here's the link cohanmagazine.blogspot.com/202
it has all the video links, Youtube + Spectra/Peertube plus more photos. I'll link all the videos here, too, in a thread (all short, some actual 'shorts').

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 18 but I'm posting #December 21 so Blessed and Happy Solstice to all! This date is what all the mid-winter holy days/festivals are really about in the Northern Hemisphere - Sun has reached the maximum of her southward journey, and will begin the slow return. We celebrate the anticipated return of #light but also should take some time to reflect on the darkness: #sleep #blood #soil #death #regeneration #SeasonalRhythms #pagan #animist
Happy mid-summer to Southern friends!

#FotoMontag #PhotoMonday Tomorrow is the #CrossQuarterDay between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice- this is the real reason for all the end of October/ beginning of November cultural/religious celebrations that have developed in various places. Traditionally for northern Europe this is the beginning of #Winter. It's been pretty accurate here in recent years- late Oct or early Nov has seen lasting #snow for us. this year it started Oct 23 #pagan #animist #Alberta #SeasonalRhythms #BorealForest

There is, though, beneath or beside the colour of the season, another feeling: loss. Even as the colour reaches it peak, it is beginning to fade. Growth slows and stops for the year, nature prepares for winter. Life is locked into stem and root and seed, humans harvest, other animals feast and store fat and food, many birds prepare to leave and chilly mornings remind us there are cold hard days ahead.
