I can't stop starting new art journals.
I might have a problem.
Creating collage fodder - getting ready for tulip season.
Managed to spill half a bottle of acrylic ink: Quinacridone Red of course, a staining pigment. Fortunately, my entire work surface is covered in silicone sheets, not a drop on my tables or my turkish carpet.*
* why, oh, why,do I have a turkish rug in my studio area? Printmaking is hard on the feet - but, really, for inspiration, of course!
Help: looking for a word for
The pattern made by ink pressed under glass. Also there is a white jasper stone that has these black marks. Looks like lichen or capilliaries.
I can't even show you a photo since I can't recall the name. Gaah #covidFog
Yeah, I figured if I wrote all this, it would come. Adjective is "dendritic"
I've been taking the time to sort through gelli prints today, and oh boy... I have an intimidating pile of "needs more work" and "cut me up" papers.
I may need to lie down from overwhelm.
Experimenting: water-soluble oil pastel and dilute gouache on the gelli plate.
Start by rolling out a good layer of clear acrylic gesso, to create a workable surface, but work with a light touch, as it's fragile.
Next time I'd dip the pastels in water so they slide better.
Playing with spraying alcohol or water (fine spray or bigger droplets) onto acrylic paint, on the gelli plate. #fun
Tips: I used heavy body, and first thinned the paint a lot with retarder. Thinning with water wasn't as good.
pickup sheet was raw Xuan rice paper (very absorbent)
remove the pickup sheet after a few seconds, to get all the details. Else it spreads and blurs.

Collaging another first layer in one of my board books. It looks so raw and full of possibility in this phase!
Feeling happy with this 11 colour palette, made with 5 primaries, earthy green, two whites, brown & black. (I've decided pure white & black are superflouous, tho.)
It feels comfortable & flexible to me. I like that the colours are rich, but do not scream. (Well, I did add in cad red (hue) & hansa yellow for when screaming is wanted )
Feeling pleased at reducing the world of distracting possibilities.
I'll try to use only 4-6 at a time.
But knowing me ...
Look at this #AI BS.
A single #pigment paint cannot be *both* a natural earth element and a dye. Mutually exclusive. Not at all the same thing, and the archival properties of each are worlds apart.
But an AI-of-little-brain of course finds traces of both on the web and 'compromises' by indiscrimnately presenting both as true.
It's become quite a chore to use the web for fact finding.
Caveat emptor. Be vigilant, folks.

Today's bracelet is a black and white swirl.
One of the things I love about these is they're so easy and very procedural. The first steps of making the base are so mindless that I can do it even if I don't feel like it.
Tidying up. Found an old print I made.
It's inspiring new ideas.

I have no idea where this gel print of my cat got off to, but I did find this picture on my phone.
Sometimes you experiment and it comes out weird, but weird is perfect. Which is more or less how I feel about this print.
I seem to be addicted to cutting out shapes with my Sizzix die cut machine now, seeing some of the papers I've made in a new light now that they're cut... I'm anticipating I'll be wondering what to do with a ton of paper hearts soon.
