My sister and brother-in-law are visiting this week and we took the opportunity to hike a part of the Bernese Oberland we have never been to. From Gimmelwald in the Lauterbrunnen Valley we hiked to Tanzbedeli (local dialect for the more general Swiss German Tanzbödeli, which translates to "small dance floor"). It is a small flat summit near Spitzhoren and one can imagine people indeed have been dancing here in the past.

We were blown away, literally, so we descended after only a short stay. We slowly came back in the valley where the trees were very colorful. A coffee with apple pie was the perfect ending of this longer hike.

Back from my hike towards Rottalhütte.
Did in the end turn around with 150m elevation to go, since I was mindful of the 1850m decend I still had to do and that had a few tricky parts including a uncomfortably loose steel cable in one ride I had to climb up and down.
But I was definitely worth getting up there. The view onto the glaciers was awesome and I found some Edelweiß!

Lautenbrunnen, Switzerland. This is the valley that inspired Rivendell in Lord of the Rings.

This is from our first trip last fall. I've been back four times since then, and it doesn't feel like I've gone back enough. It's a truly amazing place.

A massive valley in the Swiss alps with huge granite cliffs on both sides of the photo. In the background are thick clouds, but between their curling you can see just the hint of a snowy peak. The valley itself has green grass, a medieval looking church, and the trees are are soft yellow, about to be orange.
