"Changing the algorithm to make it benevolent rather than polarising is easy for those who control the platforms. Plenty of social media companies, — such as Pinterest, for example — allow people to engage and discuss ideas without promoting toxic content. While I feel regulation should be a last resort, in this case the industry has not self-regulated. (...)

I continue to struggle for stability in this beginning age of #fascism in #America. I'm in a lucky position. I'm a white, heterosexual, man who is retired and only dependent on federal dollars for social security and medicare. My life is virtually unaffected so far (if I don't watch/read the news).

But I'm also terrified, enraged, and stressed to the max watching Trump/Musk and his idiot minions dismantle our #democracy.

NEW STUDY OUT IN IC&S

Putting #FilterBubble Effects to the Test

In an experimental survey study with real #news #recommendersystems (#NRS), we find **limited** support for #polarization effects of #algorithms inducing "filter bubble" like information environments.

Data also show how balanced algorithms may promote #depolarization.

Reactance (Resistence)
- E:Endowment Effect
Corresponding Evidence
