Day five: Multi-cultural bullshit

“Chinese language #influencers who mostly post lifestyle content are interviewing election candidates on the social media app #Rednote, allowing politicians to bypass an apparent “shadow ban” on #campaigning by the app and reach a disengaged but vital audience.

The interviews with influencers who usually post about food, real estate and shopping have been published on a platform that is not actively monitored by the Australian Electoral Commission due to Rednote’s scale and the commission’s resources.

#ScottYung, the #Liberal candidate for the ultra-marginal Sydney seat of #Bennelong, where almost one-third of residents have #Chinese ancestry, has featured in multiple interviews shared by #Mandarin speaking influencers on Rednote in recent weeks.”

I note Scotty (another Scotty) highlighted himself due to State campaigning irregularities in 2019. Johhny (War crimes) Howard is all over the #Bennelong campaign. Howard, one step away from #CCP influence campaign. Handy Andy Hastings will be in fits.

This isn’t a “Chinese thing”, this is a “Politics thing” where a multicultural background is weaponised for candidates against the rest of Australian #voters.

I find it fascinating that birds just come with engineering instructions.

Currently watching sunbirds build a nest at my balcony and I always wonder how they know how to do what they do

Ps: Realise that people thought this were the birds I am talking about lol. No, these are taken from xiaohongshu, and these are magpies.

Misinformation was rife as the wildfires spread across Los Angeles last month, and that wasn’t just happening in English language media. For @thexylom, Aorui Pi explains how platforms like WeChat and RedNote served as a vector for fake news, which may have made life harder for Chinese immigrants living in fire-affected areas.

A detailed look at the privacy concerns surrounding the social media app RedNote.

The app, which is primarily used for sharing pictures, videos, and shopping, has over 300 million users.

The Citizen Lab at The Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto, have found several security issues with the app, including the retrieval of user content over plaintext http & file contents & Device data being readable by network attacks.

Electronic Frontier Foundation · Crimson Memo: Analyzing the Privacy Impact of Xianghongshu AKA Red NoteEarly in January 2025 it seemed like TikTok was on the verge of being banned by the U.S. government. In reaction to this imminent ban, several million people in the United States signed up for a different China-based social network known in the U.S. as RedNote, and in China as Xianghongshu (小红书/...

During the #TikTokBan some have characterized #RedNote as an opportunity for #Chinese and western netizens to finally talk to each other, I wonder if anything came out of that? Because from my experience I see that some #international #students (especially Chinese, but certainly applicable to others as well) - already in the West and have little language barrier - don't meaningfully interact outside of their ethnic groups (beyond necessity), and the cause of that should be explored.

Austin American-Statesman: Texas Gov.
