@yassie_j @easrng the Chinese "cat instance" (was a mix of cat pics and politics) also got either closed down or put behind the Great Firewall (albeit in such a way that it can still be identified as a working Fediverse instance) after Beijing authorities leaned on the admins (consider they are likely to be middle class young people in tech careers which they don't want to jeopardise, and Beijing may even have let them carry on providing they don't federate with the West)
@yassie_j @easrng the scary bit was how it had been configured so CCC in Germany could still see it as an active instance (although it makes sense when you consider how AP works), which leads liberals into a false sense of security but is a warning its still possible for Fedi to be censored or fragment along national boundaries if the govt of where an instance is hosted is determined and tech savvy enough..
