Stainless Bob tack welding our solar arch on deck of our boat in Brighton in 2016. The only part of the refit I didn't do myself.
I thought he was doing a pretty good job of this. I later found out he's got a stack of welding certifications, including one for work on nuclear power plants
He could weld stuff other welders called impossible, like a new exhaust pipe into the rotten aluminium body of a diesel heater.
@yngmar with bare hands! Bad decission!
@mcSlibinas Nope, no problem, he knows exactly what he's doing.
@yngmar electric arc have some nasty UV radiation. You can't get killed in one weld, but it accumulate. Smaller arc give less radiation, anyway - it's not a cure.
@mcSlibinas I'm sure he knows that, he did this all of his working life. I did not see any scars on his fingers, he knows what he's doing very well.
It's a small TIG machine he uses for portable jobs. He is not using filler either. There is zero spatter (boats have teak decks and are made from melty plastic, spatter would lose him the job).
And lastly, he's just tacking it in place, not welding seams.
