The United Nations has proclaimed 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ).

At the @mpi_grav and the Institute for Gravitational Physics at @unihannover quantum mechanics has always played a major role in both experiment and theory.

We have put together a page for you that showcases our research related to quantum physics, associated press releases, relevant articles in yearbooks of the @maxplanckgesellschaft and, later during the year, current events.

The Distinguished Lecturer Series (#DLS) is the main venue of the MPL to bring to you the international thought leaders in the science of light.

In our second event in 2025, Sara Mouradian, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Washington gave her lecture on "Engineering (Useful) Trapped-Ion Quantum Technologies".

You’ll find her inspiring talk here: youtube.com/watch?v=LRkt-8Rpo6

Exciting news! Our team’s first patent on symmetrical microwave feeds for large ion traps is officially published. By using splitters and phase adjusters, we ensure the trap is supplied symmetrically, resulting in more stable and precise electron trapping. This innovation serves as a key foundation for quantum optics and quantum computing.

Our next goal? Implementing high-temperature superconductors like YBCO to cut energy losses, boost performance, and open up new possibilities in quantum tech. If you’re working with superconductors—or share our passion for next-gen quantum hardware—let’s connect and explore collaborations!
