#cheat

#UMN PhD student was expelled for apparently using #AI (ChatGPT, specifically) to #cheat on his comps exam. He is suing the uni, naturally.

These days, it is very easy for the students to cheat and for the professors to catch, with both camps wielding AI. Accidental contamination is inevitable, since millions of students are permitted to use AI to "check the grammar" of their writings. Also, when both the AI and the humans learn from the same tired sources, there is bound to be some overlap in the work product. On the other hand, if the writing is statistically too close to the generated text, there is strong presumption of cheating. The rebuttal, of course, is that AI could well have learned the subject from the older publications of the very author who is now being accused of cheating.🤦‍♂️

A simple, effective way an #academic can shield himself against accusations of impropriety is to make a recordation, in the form of timestamped, longhand #notes, of the complete research history.

Regardless of the facts and the outcome of this case, #AcademicDoping by AI is here to stay. Sad. Or, is it?🤷

“It’s cheating, if you get caught”

Eventually cheating in games will evolve to become undetectable and games will have to pivot to pattern recognition server-side anti-cheat, or PRSSAC for short.

Imagine software that reads the graphic frame buffer and feeds that to an input simulator with human-like behavior.
