Two things I'm learning, an learning to be okay with, about myself as a musician, throughout this album, from rehearsal to promotion and release:

I'm not a vocalist. I like my voice, but it's not a fine tuned instrument - it's approximate, not precise, but it carries a tune with the right amount of emotion.

I'm also an underground musician. A folkie. I'm not seeking fame, nor wld I particularly fit in w the mainstream folk crowd.

I just want to write, sing, and be sung.

To close out the weekend in the Western Hemisphere, here’s a ‘colorized’ #MusicVideo of Bob Dylan performing live in 1963, just a couple of years after he burst on the #FolkMusic scene. These powerful early solo performances are what turned a most unlikely character into a legend. #BobDylan

In the essential folk music book, "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down," there is a story about Cambridge MA folkies traveling and coming upon a Southern country fair. The musician playing at the time was Doc Watson. One of the Cambridge guys couldn't believe he had never heard of someone this talented. He asked where else does Watson play. The answer was, He doesn't play anywhere else ... he's blind. The Harvard Square folkies then helped put Doc on the road and in front of diverse, appreciative audiences. I heard him sing to an audience of over 3,000 at the University of Maine. He showed that he was well grounded in traditional material but was not at all afraid to perform the latest songs. Too bad Guitar Pilgrim hasn't released a video about Doc's picking style. He has done nearly everyone else. It seems to me I've seen a video of Tommy Emmanuel presenting how to play "Doc's Guitar." Doc and Merle were really amazing.

Today I realized I had this recording in the vault (guess I'm starting to develop a vault, yay). It was previously only available one #BandcampFriday back in 2020. Well it's here forever now! Please enjoy my favorite love song of the 90s, courtesy of The Magnetic Fields. You know it, you love it: The Book of Love.

Apparently today is #MusiciansDay? That's cool.

If you'd like an #introduction to my music, here's my most popular song. :)

I tend toward retro-tinged #folkMusic, but my tastes are eclectic, and I hope it shows. Themes of #MentalHealth, #politics, and #spirituality come up often in my songs.

I love connecting with other #queer, #trans, #disabled, and otherwise kind folks here, so please reach out!

Had a good music session last night - our usual small core of free-reed instruments being supplemented by a low whistler, a guitarist and a banjo player; the latter two did a couple of “old time” songs, while the former encouraged us into a brief and enjoyable Northumbrian spree. And of course I took my new smallpipes, which went down well.
I’m looking forward to a get-together to play in the park on Easter Monday ahead of our next regular gathering on the last Tuesday night in April already.

If you’re in or near #BedfordUK and play folk music you should come along - message me for details!

All Aglow...!

What a beautiful piece of #music
inspired by the story of Bevis, who the LA-based composer, Robinton Hobbs, became familiar with in his childhood.

All Aglow is a track on his new album, February Mountain.
